I honestly don't prefere the 2 speeds. The high speed is too high for dragging in weights and the low speed is too slow. The single speed in a 2:1 ratio are perfect. Might have to pump the rod a bit on a bigger fish but that's life.

For open beaches like the panhandle any reel that will pack on 1000yrds of 130lb line (at least 500 being mono) and puts out 45-50lbs of drag without fear of breaking is ideal. For beaches with structure, jetties and reefs, 800yrds of 200lb line (at least 250 of mono) and capable of putting out 70lbs of drag is my preference. Especially off rocky cliffs.

Two 20/0 everol spools welded together for a 40/0 setup. Spooled with 5 miles of steel cable with a topshot of chain. Perfect setup for freelining 7' bull sharks. Could even double as a bait rod if in a pinch.
