Daiwa Saltist 6500H / Which rod?

Hey Everyone,

I'm about to get the Daiwa Saltist 6500H spinning reel. I'm primarily going to be fishing off a dock that sits on a dredge. I'll be focusing on sharks in the 200-400lb range. The rod will need to be able to handle 80lb braid. Under $200. Any suggestions?

Specs:
STT6500H
Mono: 25/300
30/250
Braid: 70/550
80/440
Gear Ratio: 6.2:1
Bearings: 5 CRBB
1 RB
Line Per Handle Turn: 53.1''
Max Drag: 33.0lbs
Weight (oz): 24.4 oz

Thanks

Hi,
I have the same rel and I don't believe it will handle the sharks you want to target very well. You will blow up the reel sooner or latter and lose your braid a few times. you will also fatigue the shark to the point of possible death. Its a great reel for blacktips/tarpon/nurse sharks/spinners and small bull sharks. Get a 11 to 13ft rod and cast out bait for sharks and you will love it.

Save some $$ and get yourself a penn 9/0, 12/0, 14/0/16/0 or a 2 speed reel for the bigger sharks.

good luck
