Dacron or powerpro
i wouldnt put that much braid on there to begin with - get a 500yd spool of 100lb braid and pack it on the reel as tight as you can get it - then top it off with 80lb to 100lb mono and roll with it. you will have abbrasion resistance and line capacity and close to 900yds of line on the reel - if you get a fish that pulls off that much line under full drag on a 9/0 its going to smoke the drag anyway - more line isnt going to save you.
so you like having a longer topshot then? because i was thinking of only doing a 100yd topshot but you guys like em longer? i have tons of 80lb mono so wouldnt be an issue to make it longer. i deff wanna be in the upwards of 800yds of line at least not necessarily for extra line during the fight but to be able to get my bait out alot further thanks guys
ok thanks timmy...has anyone heard of the chinese dyneema on ebay? 40 bucks to fill a 9/0 would be nice but seems to good to be true. also a pex braid but thats a U.S. company bout 70 buck to fill the reel(1200yds). just curious if they are worth a try or to just go with the power pro
I have the exact line that you mention that comes only in 4 threads.
So far the biggest shark that i caught was a 8.5-9ft hammerhead from the pier and I lost the second 7ft hammerhead few hours later because the line snapped. The issue wasn't with the line, as initially i thought - what happen was when i released the first hammer i used the railings to snap the braid and got fried for few yards. Not realizing that i tight another knot and start fishing again, but this time the line snapped under the same pressure - level drag reel - about 50lbs drag. Overall the line is OK, BUT, if you really wanna have quality and cheap braided line from ebay - buy only braid that contain at least 8 threads. They usually advertise as "x-strong" braid - cost about $70 between 1,100yds 100lb-150lb with shipping included and you still have to wait about 3 weeks to get it.
All my braid is from china, and so far they worked well, the only issue is when you really wanna go cheap - like i did for testing. I purchased 1,100yds 100lb braid for $40, which is like i mention above - OK for a 4 thread braid - but i don't fully like it because you can tell that can't handle for long frying through the rod guides. The 8 threads is fine. I still have 8 thread gray color braided line 100lb 500yds, and i caught a 9.5ft hammerhead on a penn 4/0 2hours fight this year in January.
for shark fishing dicron is very good but it is thicker then braid but you wont cut your self thats the good thing about dicron for the 9/0 senetor go with cable thats what i do
WHEN IT COMES TO SHARK FISHING I KNOW WHAT IM DOING I WAS THE BEST IN LONG ISLAND NY I FISHED FOR GIANT TUNA AND SHARKS FROM FREEPORT LONG ISLAND AND THE CANYON.
Tufline xp #200 braid works well and lays flat....great for big boys..
Love the stuff!
When hung up, I cannot break it! 2 of us couldnt pulling tug of war style. I tried giving a bunch of slack and running up the beach only to be jerked off my feet!
Really shoulda got a vid of that one,
knocked the wind outta me. Lost half the spool to a boat though
now its just backing.
