Just found out that the butt end of the Calstar Baja Boomer blank is too big for most gimbals and need to find somewhere to get a gimbal for the build . Any ideas? :?:

Try a piece of pvc that will fit in the rod butt and attach gimbal to pvc..call minows and monsters in south tampa and ask for keith..he is off on mondays..thats what he did with my 10ft gator rods he built..

i ran into this problem too. don't buy a rod gimbal. this is a sick do it yourself project. after thinking and thinking and thinking. i came up with an idea. ill post a pic later, but i have an "X" shaped peeve of green create plywood. i covered it with duct tape cuz i felt like it. i bought a 2" pvc cap, not the round ended ones, the flat ones. cut a wedge out of the top of it and put a 1/4" bolt through it for the gimbal to sit in. there are bolts that have no thread on the first 2", this will ensure no damage is done to the rod. bolt the cap to the gimbal. i had an old construction bag harness and i took the heavy leather belt off of that to drew to the gimbal. its the most comfortable gimbal I've ever used. if you've got the time. it looks sick and works even better. i went ahead and spent 20 bucks on a tuna tamer shoulder harness. just a thought.
grace and peace
