Connections, how do you guys like to do it in SF?
So, I use a served dacron splice w/ super glue or served hollow core JB braid splice to connect mono. mainline to mono. topshot. The 6 turn San Diego jam knot is my go to for connecting topshot to swivel/terminal tackle. I like the yucatan for making line to line connections on surf gear. I am interested in hearing how you guys like to do it. I've seen that some of you use a spider hitch to make a double line and I'm curious about what advantage comes with the double line?
Chris
to splice 130# hc diamond braid to my 150# topshot I use a nub knot connection then I crimp the 150 to the swivel, I used to use a sand diego knot but decided a crimp was a safer bet. If' I'm splicing solid braid to mono I use an albright and do a bimini in the braid.

I like to keep things simple -i've used the same clinch knot as my main knot for over 30 years but on the bridges and piers I like a double line(spider hitch is fastest and works well) so i have the advantage of doubled line in my spool when the shark is right under me and tries to go under to cut me off on the pilings I have more power to turn his head. A Bimini twist ,yeah if you like spending that much time on knots---I DON"T!!On the beach I use 15 feet of 400 lb LP mono with a 800 lb swivel at the top(easy to hold when leadering a big shark) and 15 feet of #19 wire with a swivel (to prevent kinks)five feet from the hooks(20 to 30 foot-max leader size is all you need).Tying knots with the 400 lb test line works just fine without crimps .Many times I'll be on the beach and get a cutoff and need to make a leader fast so i don't want to have to lug around a crimper and crimps so I Keep it simple and light ,,,,It's what's worked for me.As far as tying mono to braid I like the modified albright(the Alberto knot)

.Most of the old school guys in the club use straight 130 lb test mono top to bottom on there Penn Senator 14/0's and 16/0's .I will say this "the better old school sharkers are willing to adapt with time and are willing to learn new techniques ,knots, etc, etc, etc to better the chances of catching the real MONSTERS.
