I use about 7 or 8 ft of 250-400 lb mono, 4-8 oz egg weight, and a 7/0-9/0 circle hook. Sometimes I will use about a foot or so of wire, sometimes I don't. I prefer to not use wire on these smaller baits and just set the hook asap in case the mono is getting chomped up by a shark, because other stuff like tarpon will more likely eat a bait without any wire but they don't seem to care how thick the mono is.
