Avet pro drag upgrade/service.

After Talking with Avet and Alan Tani a bit I found that there is a small little thing you can do to get some more drag Yea I know ...who needs more drag out of Avet 50w or 80W? 55lbs is enough. I do ? I need a T-rex
After my recent P.E.I trip my 50 took some abuse and had a foul burnt smell so that was the reel I went for first.

First thing I did was test the drags at strike and full with 2 different scales.

I got between 38-39 on full with both scales. As you can see the reel is missing the top shot, so the drag numbers I got after the service will change a bit when the spool is full.

Now for the tear down.

Now this is what caused the foul smell. What happened is a little oil or grease got on the drag washer from the factory, so when the reel got hot from the Jiant Tuna peeling heavy drag it burnt some of the oil. I was instructed to clean the drag washer with soap, water and tooth brush to remove anything on the washers.

All done with the cleaning I start to put the reel back together. The upgrade to the drag is a simple thing by putting the small E clips on the smaller post. you can see that there is 6 post 3 are one size and 3 are another size. The reel comes stock with the clips on the 3 taller post, the only thing I did was move the clips to the 3 shorter post.

I marked the 3 short post so it was easy to tell which ones they where when I put the E clips back in.

After everything was cleaned re lubed and put back together I did the drag test. I 42-43 lb on full. Not a huge increase but it definitely gains me a few more pounds. I went ahead and did a max drag with free spool and got 60-61 lbs not bad for a 50W.
