Anybody think of using parachute cord. 550lb test braid. Tie that to a nice steel cable and im thinking it should drag in about anything that grabs hold. Any ideas?

I don't see the point.
If your talking leader 500lb mono and #19 wire works fine
For main line that dosent sound like fun.

Jerry brown makes 500, 800, and i believe 1000, and honestly there isnt a real equipped for that heavy line. Sounds like hand lining to me

Ive been thinking about using 550 cord between my wire and mainline for a while now just havent tried it out yet. I used to use yellow nylon rope but it has alot of drag in the water when the tide is moving across your line it takes alot of weight to stay put. I think 550 cord will have a bunch of drag in the water too, much more than heavy mono. If you give it a shot let us know how it goes.

William mentioned somewhere on this forum, that #19 solid wire leader and about 15-20' of cable +250lbs backing is the best combination, since none of these can be cut easily when the shark swims around reefs or sharp structures.
I would imagine that 550lb braid is still easier to get it cut by a shark around thous sharp reefs then wire or cable.

550 cord is actually Paracord used on Parachutes. We use it in the Marine Corps for EVERYTHING known to man. Its a thin diameter cord similar to hollow braid with inner cords. It doesn't dryrot or mildew and breaks consistently at or above 550lbs and is very tough stuff. I've pulled a HMMWV (Military "Humm vee") with another HMMWV in the Motor Pool just screwing around wondering if it would snap or not, used an improved clinch knot from "D" ring to "D" ring . Its pretty darn abrasion resistant too if you ask me, but idk if its really suited for Sharkfishing, ya know? It rides right alongside my Duct tape in my Jeep for whenever its needed:lol:. An awesome piece of gear but i just dont know if its really fishing gear. Although, I have pulled a single strand of the inner cords out and used it for survival fishing line in Okinawa during JWTC (Jungle warfare training center) survival training. Worked great for catfishing with canepoles and limblines in a survival type situation 8-).

It is great stuff but I wonder if it is resistant to saltwater for long periods of time........this sounds like a test for you! 8-)
