How much drag in pounds would you expect to get at full from any 50w reel brand out there when the leveler is cranked all the to full?

You should see 50lb of drag from any of the newer 50w lever drags. Without a fighting chair you would be very hard pressed to be able to sustain that much pressure for long though. A few days ago I was in an hour and a half battle with a big tiger and had about 40lbs of drag on it throughout the fight. 3 days later my legs are still sore...haha.

I currently have my tld 50 (spooled with 80lb braid) set to 27# of drag at the strike setting and 37# at full. I can probably get the drag to go a bit tighter but I am not sure if I would even want to. I am actually considering loosening the drag a bit. While fighting a fish I have yet to see a need to raise the drag beyond the strike setting. I have yet to catch a true monster, my biggest shark is only a 7'8" bull, but I feel as if it should have put up more of a fight. That particular fight was less than 25 minutes and the fish never ran more than 20-30 yards at a time. Maybe I will be glad that I have the extra drag one day when I hook into a monster, but when that day comes I cant imagine having to hold on to 30+ pounds of drag without a harness.

The drag is important but if u hook a 15 footer that fish does not care what pound drag u have, that monster needs line to run and if u don't have enough line to give em u'll be done so for me is better have more line than have a better drag...is my opinion

And that is why you buy a larger everol, 12/0 or larger and have the best of both worlds. And if anyone is interested I know a trick to add even more drag pressure on these reels. My 12/0 with less than full drag at over 3/4 spool of line will clean break 200lb powerpro (thanks boat for helping me determine this).

You will slow that fish down quicker though if you can apply more drag pressure to it without having the reel go up in flames. Its hard to keep alot of drag pressure on a big fish with a senator when it starts to burn up.
