18/0 Everol

I was lucky enough to aquire one of the first two 18/0 Everol test reels to enter the U S.
It does have the 14/0 side plate and is a single speed. The spool is un-anodized, I was told the first spools had to be re-invented after finding the original spools warped under the 90 lbs of drag. Very smooth reel and built like a tank. Not that much heavier than a 16/0. I don't use it, just tooo dang pretty! Besides, I have plenty other big reels. I do have a 14/0 Everol and love it.
Had a BIG shrimper come by and catch my 14/0 rig one time, sad to admit, That reel and I were over matched and lost the fight. But the drag was smooth and I found out I can stand up harnessed in and break 130 lb line. (had to grab the spool with both hands)
I did spool it up the 18/0 once directly from a 16/0 (just to see the difference),,,,
the 18/0 holds about 100 to 150 yds less than the 16/0.
In all fairness, I do fill my 16/0 almost to the bars.

18/0 compared to an Abu 5000

Set up on a local beach

Looks huge, the arbor on the spool is really thick though.

Does it really hold 1500+/200lb?

thanks for posting up. Those are the first real pictures I have seen of a 18/0, and its huge! The Everol factory pics do not do it justice.

I have been thinking, how the info on this reel's line capacity differs form what my reel actually holds?????
So I found a pretty good pic to compare the two, It would appear the current procuction reels have a smaller diameter arbor. Hence the difference in line capacity.

I'm not really sure if $1,800 for this reel would make a good market in US, since there are other reels out there where the drag at FULL SPOOL exceed 100lbs of drag force. Line capacity shouldn't be an issue either since ebay is full of braided line 2,000yds 200lb test for around $100. Doing the math you would get a fully spooled reel for $900 1,400yds at 200lb braided line - a good example would be AVET PRO EXW80/2.

this reel will take over 4000yrds + of 200 lb braid which cost apox $1700 on the low end for a 5000 yrd spool my everol 18 has 2400 yrds of 130 dacron and 600 yrd topshot of 200 lb mono

wow! thats a lot of line! your topshot alone (600yards @ 200lb) will fill up the average 130 lever drag up to about 90% if it is .053. The 18/0 must be even bigger then it looks!

That is one MONSTER reel. Can I ask why the heck would you need such a big, wide, heavy ass thing for? What drag will it produce? edit... I read 90lb, :? sorry

Sorry but I think those giant reels are a thing of the past or old school. There is no need for a mile of line. With all the new tec stuff out like smaller stronger line and smaller stronger reels anything bigger then a 12/O is overkill.

All is just my opinion, If you love it and it makes you happy fish that beast and tell me to shut the F up
I mean there is no doubt that is one awesome reel. If it was mine... I am thinking I would run 200lb mono all the way or 300lb Jerry brown hollow to 200lb top shot

So your saying over 1000yrds is over kill for a 14ft Hammer that's fast as hell? N that a 14/0 and a 16/0 is over kill for the BIG Hammers and Bulls

Yea close... I say 13 1400 yards of line that can hold 60lbs of drag is plenty.

Lets say you make a super long drop around 500 yards you hook a monster Hammer, if that hammer can pull another 800 yards of line off with almost 70lbs of drag near the bottom of your spool I don't think your going to catch that fish with any more line. If you have 1000 + yards of line out standing on the beach with a monster hooked up, the odds of you getting that fish is almost 0. 1000 yards of line out in the watter is going to get you cut off on something because it will be dragging on the bottom during the fight I don't think you could even keep braided line from getting a huge belly and be dragging around.

I have not caught a 14 foot hammer and I am no pro but I have seen what 600 yards of mono off my spool on a shark does you cant even feel a 6 foot fish with that much 100lb mono in the water. The water creates more drag on the fish then your reel does.

You could run 300lb braid on a T-rex and destroy any 12 14 16/O reel loaded with mono.

Like I said its just my opinion and I have no true facts on a 14 foot hammer. I am just making my own judgements sorry if i pissed you off.

Braid has its time and place. If you are going to be running all braid you will be f'ed over in Florida. Sorry, but 14/0 sized reels are still the only way to go for the true monster class fish
