I was curious if anyone is using 14/0 or 16/0 J hooks other than the mustad sea demon 7731? As some of the old timers could tell ya, they used to offer a few different selections twenty years ago. Is this model the only option for these size hooks today?

I am aware of the variety of mustad models. Only ONE model that I know of, the 7731, features the large 14/0 and 16/0 J hooks we like to use for large baits. The mustad 4480 dts are meathooks.

i dont use anything bigger than a 12/0 hook but on big baits i think using a trailer hook or stinger hook is a good idea :o

The Mustad Super Marlin comes in 14/0. They are expensive at around $18 per hook. I have some ordered from Melton International. I plan on using them with "special" baits only. I have a bunch of 11/0 7699 Seamasters for other baits that I need a J hook for.

VMC makes a really nice hook at almost half the price of a mustad.

I almost exclusively use Owner Jobu Big Game 11/0,12/0s. This hook in an 11/0 is almost as wide as a mustad 14/0 due to its unique shape. Also it is razorsharp with its triangle point, weldedeye and 4X. Only downfall is they go for 16-18$ for a pack of 2.

I have not handled any of those. Can they be resharpened easily like a knife edged mustad?

I had one for almost two years and it was still razorsharp, so ive never sharpened one to be honest.
