12/0 and 14/0 drag?

howdy, new to this site, and pretty new to the shark fishing.... I just got a penn 12/0 (waiting to get a rod for it) and my buddy has a 14/0 on a dogfish stick. I was wondering what the max drag is on both the 12/0 and 14/0? We locked both of them down and pulled on them and my 12/0 seemed alot stronger... could mine have upgraded drag washers? Thanks

From the factory, the 14/0 has a stated 32 lbs of drag and the 12/0 has 25 lbs of drag. Your 14/0 may have the old asbestos washers or may be missing a washer. You can order a new kit (HT 100's) or have it done at a tackle shop.

I had a very similar issue with one of my 14/0's. I had two that looked the same on the out side but the drags were way off.

You can also add an extra washer in there and try to increase the drag pressure but do not over stack the washers and try to get too mush drag. The reels were not engineered for 65 lbs or 80's like some of the lever drag reels.

The tech at my local shop hooked me up and claims that the reel has about 50 LBs of drag on it but I have yet to test that on a monster

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'd say that my buddies 14/0 probably does have around 32lbs of drag, but my 12/0 i just got definitely has more than 32lbs. Cant wait to get a rod for it and get hooked up...

Welcome to the site.

These members are some of the coolest people around. We have all had to do research these issues. I know I spent a lot of time researching senators myself.

I see I had misread your post. Your 12/0 may have a worked up drag or your buddy's 14/0 may be on the weaker side and need an upgrade.
