The sharks were plentiful Sat night. We arrived at the beach a few hours before sunset to get set up and the one time I didnt bring a bait rod the surface was exploding with action...Tried my luck with the cast net but only came up with a few small ladyfish...so frozen baits it was...

Between the 2 of us we tagged and released 7 sharks including the ever elusive tiger shark!!!

3 black tips with the biggest going 5'6" and one already tagged
2 lemons @ 7'2" and 7'6"
1 bull @ 6'1"
1 tiger @ 7'6"

Enjoy the pics!!!

This blacktip ate a 2' blacktip that I didnt even know was on the line...a two-for!!! guess that makes 8 sharks lol

There were a few welcomed distractions out there

And for the guest of honor...ate a big ole grouper head

What a night!!!

Hey Doug...yeah we were a few beaches up if u still shark the same one...not sure what kind of leader u are using these days but 6 of the 7 sharks hit coated cable (600#)...the tiger was the only run of the night on uncoated...all single hook rigs

That's interesting..I use single strand wire..If I were you I would only use uncoated, that way you will catch more tigers! Seriously man, you and I both know how great of a catch that is for around here. Congrats again! I started a "tiger quest" 29 days ago..since then I've put out 12 big baits and will continue to put out big baits at least once a week until I get one. You got me more motivated!

The cable has absolutely nothing to do with the results (imo)it's all about the place at the right time.Keep in mind they were using frozen baits so the place was on .That spot is isolated and not fished much .I say put in your time fish the good spots as often as possible and you will create your luck.Shark fishing is hard work but the determined observent anglers will do well.Again Great Report!!

I agree and disagree with you Will..Certain times of the year (just speaking about our area), the sharks get picky. We've done the experiments numerous times with multiple rigs of each coated and uncoated out with the same baits and 100% of the time the coated was hit first and more often than the uncoated. A lot of the texas guys have the same results which is why they even go a step further and wrap their hooks with electrical tape. Sometimes the fishing is just on but can you recall some nights when you wouldn't get a run even though you had the perfect bait and the conditions were right? Could be there were just no sharks in the water, or it could be they just never grabbed your bait because of the electric pulse set forth by the cable. In any case, I know from exchanging pms with captaingaff that they work hard and put the time in to catch what they catch.

Even the guys I shark with banter back and forth about whats the best technique...cable...wire...both...cable to wire..mono to cable....spider weights...egg sinkers....electric tape...but Ive done similiar experiments as u Doug and coated always gets hit before uncoated and wire...that night we had 5 rods out...3 coated...2 uncoated...I dont really think the big sharks care though
Personally...i like 12-15' of coated cable with an egg sinker on the main line and a short shank 12/0 j-hook...if the currents ripping i will use spider weight...thats the set up i get the most runs/sharks with...I like the bait as natural as possible with as little tension as possible...but I have friends that swear by their rigs...it adds a lil bit of an artistic touch to have your own style and thats part of what makes sharkin so much fun
