Our First Big Hammer- 11 foot 2 inch(FEB 2011)

Went out last night with the couple members of the bullbuster team (myself, zack and steven). We hit up key biscayne, our favorite spot that always seems to provide. We were able to get a dingy out to the beach which made taking the baits out super easy. one 16/0, two 14/0, one 12/0 and a 9/0. We were ready to start the year off right. All baits in the water at 1010 all we had to do was wait. 12 o'clock came around and we finally get a hit but it was on the 9/0, our smaller real with our smalles bait. At first thought i figured a little lemon that picked up our 9inch baby bonita. Man was i WRONG. this monster took us up and down the beach and nearly spooled us, we must have had about 50 yards left on the reel before Zack, the angler of the hour, finally got some line back. 45 minutes later we saw our first glimpse of our first hammer, 11ft 2, that distinctive large dorsal fin appeared. after a couple minutes of trying to get the beast to the shore we were finally able to measure, cut the leader, take a couple pics on soem friends iphones and release the shark. Biggest so far for bullbuster but we dont plan on stopping.

That hammer is amazing, especially on the 9/0, just to show the old guys in the club, the young kids can nail some big sharks without using big reels or big baits. Congradulations, you knocked me out of first place but it's still the beginning of the year, im still in the winner circle, and i'll still be getting my lines wet for the rest of the year.

What pound test was on that 9/0 and was it a male of female?

Just an average fisherman.

Masterful catch on a 9/0 by a great group of tight knit friends most connected to UM marine science students in one way or another. That must of been one hell of fight and i'm sure you had moments when doubts crept in as the spool became smaller and line disappeared off the Penn.Colby would be proud of you as we all are,,, maybe he can chime in and offer some congratulations and words of caution to the young late bloomers :o :o

TIGHT WORK TEAM BULLBUSTERS ON A HANDSOME MALE HAMMERHEAD,,, Guys keep up the good work.

Damn what a great start to the year all these great catches so far and not even out of February yet. Hell of a catch guys..that looks like a pretty thick hammer also. I hear them hammers like small baits but damn..i am hesitant to run a bait that small on my smallest reel which makes the 9/0 look like a 14/0. Nice to see what the 9/0 and a small bait is capable of, I am sure there were a few times during that fight you thought it was over so congratulations on pulling that off. Personally I think this is a tough catch to top..but who the heck knows what is next at the rate people are getting such nice fish this early.
