Florida Sept 17, 18, 19 including an 8 ft BULL

After 13+hrs of hard driving, several Monster Energy Nitrous Killer Bees, and hunting down a Walmart in the early morning hours to get our licenses, Jeff, Monty and myself made it onto the beach around 5am. We were greated to a wide open mixed surf bite of catfish and croakers. I got stuck right away by the fin on a 4" catfish which seemed like a bad way to start a trip. After daylight Jeff got 2 good rays of around 20lbs a piece and a nice red drum

The surf was alive with mullet, tarpon rolling, ladyfish, jacks, king mackerel and spanish mackerel, which were biting our lines constantly all morning. Monty got a good run on a big bait and it broke off as soon as he put some pressure on it, likely from all the line chewing. We then had a small run and handed it off to Jeff and he got a PB

As the morning wore on it got hot fast and the lack of sleep and exhaustion made us leave the beach for a few hours to crash at a motel. We got back to the beach early in the evening and got some big baits out. The line chewing continued constantly like earlier. Monty got another good run and it broke off again as soon as he put the pressure to it. Later I had a screaming run on a big bait and after a good hard fight on the Duel 4/0 I landed a PB bull of 8'.

It gave Monty a good smack on the leg before we released it and it swam away strong.

The next day we scouted a few spots in the bay and fished a couple hours. Lots of catfish and small sharks up to around 3' were readily caught in the bay. We hit the beach a few hours before dark and the catfish were relentless on the bottom rigs as they were most of the trip. Monty saw several sharks while yakking out baits and a king jumped right beside of him. We got some big baits out and later on I had a good pickup and landed a 6'1 bull after a good fight.

The next day we found a good place to swim and cool off

Ok, we were down to the last night and we got some big baits set out a couple hours before sunset. Jeff tore into the catfish as usuall. The line bitting continued also. Around midnight I had a pickup on a big bait. It took off after mouthing it a little and when I put the pressure on it the line broke. It was heartbreaking. That was the 3rd breakoff of the trip, all on fresh new line, because of the relentless line chewers. I will never put another line on a shark rod in the water under 130lb test in that area again. All and all it was a good trip for us to a new area and we learned alot about the spot. We will be back.

Great report and nice pictures .Sory about the tail whippiong but it happens. The cut-offs happen even when we use 130 lb test. Our last time fishing the panhandle we had like 8 cut-offs on 100 to 130 lb test so keep in mind when the macks and other toothy critters are in the area it will happen.Congratulations.
