Mark will be signing autographs on Sat. night at the "Super Bowl Spot" starting at 10pm. I PM everyone on this site and others shark sites the location and where to park. Please bring your own paper, pen and something for Mark to lean on when his is signing.

By the way, I will be collecting a donation of $10.00/per angler to assist Mark with his tour. He will be promoting Catch and Release Shark Fishing throughout the state in public and private venues. LOL just kidding.

Thank you,

that made me crack up. funny stuff. i will be there pen and paper and ever thing else i want signed.

Hey everyone just want to let you guys know that Mark will be getting some gifts courtesy of the SFSC treasury and my pocket at the Monday shark club meeting because of his outstanding catch that broke the previous club record of a 14 foot Hammerhead shark caught by Rene de Dios in 1974 from the old south beach pier.If anyone feels like bringing a little something for Mark I'm sure he will appreciate it from his heart.Hope to see you all there.Noogies for Mark ,,,LOL.

FOR ANY OF YOU THAT DOUBT THE SIZE OF THIS SHARK FOLLOW ME ON THIS ONE AS I EXPLAIN THE SIZE BY SECTION TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY

FROM WHERE MARK IS HOLDING THE DORSAL TO WHERE HE HOLDS THE BACK FIN THERE IS 5 FEET OR VERY CLOSE TO IT.....FROM THE DORSAL TO WHERE THE FRONT OF THE HEAD( the hammer)THERE IS 4 FEET ........FROM THE WHERE HE HOLDS THE BACK FIN TO THE FORK THERE IS 1 1/2 FEET .....AND FROM THAT MASSIVE FORK TO THE TIP OF THE TAIL THERE ARE 45 IICHES ACCORDING TO MARK'S MEASUREMENTS,,,,,,LOOKS LIKE 4 FEET TO ME.LOOK VERY CAREFULLY AT ALL THE DISTANCES I HAVE MENTIONED AND ADD IT ALL UP. :o :o :o 14 foot 2 inches WAAALA!!!

Mark, congratulations on the way you have handled everything with poise and finesse while displaying a genuine attitude of sportsmanship and showing that you are a true gentleman. It's true that some of the original sharkers from the late 60's used to fish there & I don't think that any of them have a problem with sharing "their" spot with you. Sorry, didn't mean to be so snarky! 8-)

Thanks Will, your dissecting of my photo was very fair, I see no over( or under) exaggerations with your findings, I hope your not spending too much on me now... Thanks Jan, I'm sure you fished there too.

While looking at the pics of the BIG Hammer, my oldest son Chiqui pointed out that this could be a Scalloped Hammerhead. I'm not sure if it's a Great Hammerhead or a Scalloped. What do you guys think?

Mark,

Chiqui says " congratulations on a great catch " and he also says " that's the biggest thing I've ever seen in my life ". LOL.

It definitely appears to be a scalloped hammerhead.

Guys,

The dorsal is all you need to look at is the dorsal fin. Scalloped hammers don't have giant sickle shaped dorsal fins like that. They have broader, straighter, and shorter dorsal fins.

It has been documented that on the larger greater hammers their heads become slightly more rounded, resembling a scalloped hammer.

The head definitely appears to be curved - is there a possibility it could be a smooth hammerhead? It shows that they reach the size of this one and are only found on the East coast of Florida and not on the Gulf side and also have a curved dorsal.

Sorry for the confusion guys, but it is a greater hammerhead, I know exactly which picture you are talking about, it's just the camera angle caused the hammer to look curved on the reflection of the water. Its hammer was straighter than anything.

Same angle, no reflection....

I know how to identify all shark except for the small 4ft ones in the keys that seem to be subspecies of each other.

Don't matter it's a MONSTER HAMMER either way Amigo!!!! If you say it's a Great Hammer then it's a Great Hammer. Hey Mark or it could be a " Hammer SHUUAAARK " from your friends up North. LOL

The dorsal fin is distinctly pointed sickle shaped very different from the scalloped and the other is you'll never see a smooth or scalopped hammer anywhere near 14 foot long. The biggest hammers will always be the Greater Hammers.
