My buddy JD Fagan gave me a call friday n told me he had a whole AJ n a whole cuda and wanted 2 fish a beach around here so we hit the beach hard.We get there right b4 dark cut the baits in half and took out 4 rods .Before I finished yaking out the baits my 14/0 was cut off.A little later JD hooks up, brings In a nice blacktip then he runs 2 the store as soon as he gets back my 16/0 starts ROLLING out steady,i hit the running man n feel the powerful weight but thats it i sit down wondering what is this then the battle starts after 10mins of getting dumped i call Will n tell him im hooked up 2 a beast let him hear the reel getting spooled and he was on his way. After an hour of getting dumped i was at less than a quarter spool he starts coming in Will shows up thinking i lost him or was bringing in my bait i get more than half a spool back n the beast starts taking line again oh oh here we go again. After a couple of mins he swam in again all the way 2 the beach almost will n jd run down tail rope it n it was over.A hammer 11'5 my biggest shark ever it was a good trip 2 say the least n thanks Will driving all the way from miami 2 lend a helping hand.PICS AND VIDEO TODAY

Jimmy starts to regain line on his almost empty 16/0 .Time for new drag washers :ugeek:

RUNNING ALWYS RUNNING

I was being a good couch potato on a Sunday night watching my daily dose of tv/commercials watching documentaries that i enjoy but getting inundated with more facts and information then the library of Congress when I get a call from Jd Fagan,,,,Jimmy is hooked and can't stop a monster he's hooked on his dad's big Penn 16/0 loaded to the brim with brand new Ande 125 lb test.So I throw on a shirt ,grab my car keys and head down the road a piece pinning the speedo between 80 to 85 mph .I'm thinking i knew it this year is the year of the MOnster finally this might be it ,,,, the monster we've been waiting for has arrived and i have to be there to coach these youngens and help make the catch. There down to less then a 1/4 spool and i'm asking all kind of questions "do you have a backup reel ready to tie in" Yes is the answer !!?Do you have a loop at the bottom of your reel?No is the answer "but I can tie in with a small swivel"!! Ok that will work although it takes longer i tell them I tell Jd if he loses the shark let me know so i can turn around gas is too dammed expensive right now . As i fly down the road at stupid speeds I'm calling friends who live close by where the young sharkos are into a big fish to ask if they can come and assist but only Dave (salvashark501) is able to come.By the time i hit the beach the shark has turned off the after burners and is charging the beach.

I'm asking a battery of questions and giving instructions to Jimmy who is now winding and winding, and winding line in as the shark get closer to the beach I ask if he feels any headshakes and finally he gets tight with the runaway freight train hammer and the shark makes some more runs and settles down .

I call Dave to see if he's close by yet and he tell me "2 minutes away" so we have an additional pair of hands to grapple with the unseen beast.I ask for gloves they don't have any ,I ask for a tail rope and we have a 40 foot tail rope to drag around and get our feet tangled up in.We have flashlights and i'm giving instructions "you will grab the leader I will jump on his tail ,you will hold the flashlight .When there is a big shark about to be brought in to the beach its better to have more pair of hands to help out vs not enough.tSo the shark is coming in but heading north and we run down to our left following the line and in the light of the flashlight I caught a glimpse of the dorsal as I got closer to where the shark was approacing but it looked like a Tiger dorsal and Jd did not get a good look either .We're straining our eyes to get a clear view of the massive shark now in surf but everything is happening too fast .I'm calling Jimmy to run down to where we're at to get straight with the shark but he can't hear me above the sound of the surf. The shark now heads back south and we follow and I'm wondering "what the heck is going on, what kind of shark is this"!!! I know I saw a squarish dorsal like a Tiger's but it's charging like a hammer.

Then finally Jd and Dave grab the swivel from me as i'm backpeddling trying to bring the big girl into shallower safer water so i can go around and tie the tail rope.BAM!!Tail rope tied we work like crazy posessd water monkeys to measure and take pics because we know the clock has started as soon as we have the shark on the edge of the water we have to haul azz an get her back in safely .

I run over still soaking wet in the cool March air and grab the digital and start snapping pics and i'm asking for the tape and I'm trying to get DAVE IN THE PIC AND THEN i JUMP IN THE PIC MYSELF and jimmy is in a hurry and shouting out to get her back in the water .We're all amazed at how heavy this female with the cut off dorsal is.She's healthy and fat but totally exhausted and we rush like crazy. Jimmy, Jd, and I start walking her down the beach in waist to chest deep water reviving her ,getting water over her gills so she can swim off strong "come on big girl stroke that tail and get going" We see her start stroking her tail but we want to see more and stronger movement out of her so we walk her down the beach all the while looking around making sure a big bull shark OR tiger IS'NT HUNTING THE HUNTERS IN THE SURF AT ALMOST MIDNIGHT .She finally swims off slowly and Jimmy goes out in the yak to make sure she is doing fine. The big female hammerhead is nowhere to be found she has survived and swam away !!Hooray!!High fives and congratultory hugs are in order for a team that has worked well together and the best part is the shark has made it and Jimmy has his biggest shark ever. I'm like a proud parent once again my students are taking over and learning the fine details of catching big sharks and understanding the importance of having everything right when the monsters come around,,,,no excuses -be prepared ,or pay the price.

we bring her to the waters edge trying to keep her head in the water as much as possible

That is a truly incredible fish, not too many people can say they have been dumped al lteh way down on a 16/0 and landed teh fish without tying in to another rod, I also remember all the times Jimmy would mention he has hooked teh big boys from bridges and lost them but if he had ever hooked a big boy from the beach he would have him landed, sure enough another member of teh notorious Fuqua family has landed a beast.

Just an average fisherman.
