West Coast Weekend Report

April was dead in the Tampa Bay area for us. We have been moving around, trying new spots, changing baits, and doing everything possible to try and find the sharks with only the ocassional small lemon caught. Finally our luck changed this weekend with the full moon. Friday night I met up with Chris and he started off the night with a 5' 7" blacktip. Later on he got a 6' 10" tiger! It felt pretty good to finally see one here on the west coast since all winter we knew we were hooking them but kept loosing them. Saturday I went down south to our island house. I was solo this night and I had 4 rods out with fresh rays like always. The lucky 12 got hit and after an awesome fight I landed a fat female 8'8" lemon (4'2" girth). That was the only hit of the night. Sunday night I put out some huge fresh permit and AJ carcasses that I had acquired from a buddy and some more rays. Amazingly there was not a click all night long (thats west coast fishing for ya). I am looking forward to when all the bull sharks move in soon... I have no clue where they are.

West coast tigers are awesome, as you just dont see that many caught. Nice work guys.

And you are right it really has been dead, I have managed an occasional lemon or blacktip and thats it. Guess I am going to have to post up at Boca for a few days in search of king kong

Nice fish guys! Ive been doing pretty crappy lately! Glad to see someone is doing well over here! I was beginning to think I was gonna have to take out a small loan just to afford gas to try the East coast for the first time! I will be hitting Long Key bridge for the first time later this month though :D I'll post exact dates later when the plans are complete.
