Weekend Trip

Met up with Trevor (MidnightDreamin') on Friday Night. Got to the beach around 5 and we put out baits. Mullet, black drum, sheepshead and a mudray. Trevor had been fishing all day and was out shortly after baits went out. After about a 7 hour soak. Trevor's 14/0 started rolling. I was bundled up and did not want to get up into the cold, but Trevor didn't budge as the reel 4 feet from him took off. Got up and gave him a kick and still nothing, so grabbed the reel and he finally got up and realized we had a fish, he tightened the drag on the circles and the fish was hooked. Got it and it was a 5'10" Sandbar. His first. 12/0 got cut off later in the night and that was it for Friday.

Little did I know that this would become a problem later in the night

Hooked up

5'10 Sandbar

Wasn't going to fish Saturday as I had alot of school work to take care of, but Trevor called with news of fresh cownoses, so off to the beach I went. Trevor was set up with his friend from school Nick, who had never caught a shark, but had come out for a couple trips. Deployed 5 rods with fresh cownose. The 14/0 kept getting picked up and dropped. Reeled it in to find a very mangled ray left. Also, reeling in picked up the line that got cut the night before with a conch attached to it.

Catching on some school work

The 6/0 that was about 30 yards off the beach took off and Nick did his first running man and was hooked up. Shark took some nice runs on the 6/0 and was beached. 6'3" Sandbar, great first shark for Nick, who is definitely hooked now. Tagged the shark and released him to fight another day.

Human harness? 8-)

Fun fight to watch on the 6/0 senator series rod

Nice 6'3" Sandbar, Great First Shark

About 30 minutes, the 12/0 got absolutely annihilated. Trevor was on the rod and I had was locking the drag, reel looked like it was still in free spool on lockdown. Ran to grab the camera and the shark dropped it. It took about 200 yards in 45 seconds. Brought the cownose in with no teethmarks. Monster tiger? We'll never know, but we'll keep looking for him. Great weekend, even thought my reels didn't turn a click. :(

Nice sandbars. I'd say that 6/0 setup is about perfect for that size of shark. In fact it's pretty much the same as mine and it makes for good sport with the smaller guys. Looks like a fun trip.

Same thing happened on my friends 80w last weekend he was hooked up for a couple minutes and the fish was just running and running.one of the fastest run ive ever seen too and his line just goes slack. We get his bait in(20 lb cownose) and there's not a single bite mark in it

Good job on the video chris. I just wish it didn't make me sound like a gay feller. Fishing on the west coast is picking up everyone. I was out the night and day before chris ever met up with me on friday and didn't get a single click when solo sharkin. I'm lookin forward to some more great weather, lots of winter sharks, and putting guys on a shark from the beach for their first time. I look forward to the next time i run into jawz, the resident king kong of my secluded beach. Last time he tailwacked the mono above the 20ft cable leader and this time was going to fast for the gears on my 12/0 to engage.
