Had to light a fire on some hard core club members butts recently after seeing what Team Rebel has been doing on the beach recently.With the full moon I knew it was time to get moving or lose a wonderful oppurtunity.I told my boys look around you see the moon phase, the wind is moderate ,the surf is light right now this is a window we need to jump on right now !!!!We must hit the beach now-- FULL MOON BABY!!!!Gotta do it now before old man winter moves in on us hard.We hit right firing on all pistons and had success.Here is the quick report.
One big hammer caught and one beast lost that took me down to the braid backing.Charged at first so it was a big hammer I'm almost 100% sure.

The shark is quickly measured and released by Shannon and I .Thanks to new Florida sharker salvashark501 (dave)and the bystanders that helped with the tail rope and quick picture taking.
Next it's me I"M hooked up with a giant that gets on a roll taking line without letting up a bit .For bait I have a the head of a 40 lb AJ that I yakked out 250 yards

oh oh ,,,we're down to the backing- get a second reel is made ready just in case we need to tie in .
after 5 minutes the drag is getting hot the pressure is upped and shortly thereafter the hook straightens
back to double and triple strength Mustads oh and Tuna hooks at that
Was it too much pressure too fast?Was the shark lip hooked?Was I to tight on the fish?All questions that remain and will ponly serve to make me a better shark fisherman.
Later in the night we are met by Ray(clack ,clack ,clack)his brother Joe and Chris (snookhunter) we sit around and contemplate the beast that nearly straightened my hook and the power needed to that and the size of the monster that swims just beyond the braekers in front of our camp,There will be a next time and we are in a frenzy to make it happen enlivened by the great night of shark fishing that has put the shark fishing fire back in our veins.

I have had those 12/0 hooks bend too. I think the fish gets the leader wraped around its self and kinda gets hog tied and puts all the pressure on the end of the hook. Looks like yall having a good fall. Congrats to Shannon, nice hammer. After Zacks fish, I think fish more.

I got to the beach first, an hour before dark and kayaked both my rods out before anyone got there. When i got back to the sand after dropping my last 14-0, i saw will and ran to help him. before i could finish making a 30 yard walk back from helping ith his rods, my 14-0 was screaming(just 4 minutes aftyer dropping my bait!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow that Hammer fought like a 350 pounder... Will thanks for the hustle ,and team work on my hammer. You definitely are a vet and move very swiftly at my side whenever i hook a shark.
Let me tell you guys somthing...... Will had King Kong on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait till Sunday... Julio me and Raymundo will pick you up if you want. just start getting big baits now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You gus are a great teem. Nothing can stop you guys. Keep fishing and you two will catch that monster. Shannon, nice hammer. 
The hook model that got bent was "Mustad 7731 D ring eye demon" in a 13/0 .Just goes to show that we should always use double strength or triple strength hooks.The hook that bent was the secondary hook .In most istances the hook will not bend when hooked inside the soft part of a shark's but if the hook is inverted and the angle wrong a big shark can do that and more so my suggestion is buy double strength and up.I won't even discuss circle hooks I personally don't use them because I feel that the bite they take is not wide enough to withstand a long battle with a record sized fish.I know using hooks that cost $5 and up seems expensive and it is but only the very best gear will stand up to the monster sharks.A big shark will find the weak link in your gear and if that's the hook it will straighten.Sometimes I slip and use a cheaper hook as a secondary and that's what happened in this instance.
As a side note Rene de Dios was a cheapskate in his everyday life he would buy boxes of hot dogs and that would be his dinner most of the time while raising his daughter Erica as a single father but one thing Rene never skimped on was his shark fishing equipment and that included hooks.While guys that taught him to shark fish like JD Hammer were using what we call penny hooks (inexpensive Mustads -dollar each)Rene did the research from the big game Charter boat captains where we often went to get shark bait and they advised him to use double strength hooks ;he took the advise seriously.His results in shark fishing speak for themselves,,,,,,,he became better then his teachers don't take it from me ask JD yourselves and you will get an honest answer.
