A truly massive bull shark caught by University of Miami shark researcher Dr Neal Hammersclag on a longline proves once again you just never know how big a shark you will end up tangling with. Why only 2 pictures though can it be they only published the two best ones to gain a bit of Science community spotlight??
Definetly looks to be upwards of 800 pounds.

ps,,,,,,Thats a VERY BIG BULL SHARK Neal but a few more pics would be nice.

Huge shark, but the lens makes it seem bigger than it really is. He is using a fish-eye lens. Along with the cropping of the photo, it makes the shark look much bigger than it really is.

"He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction" (Proverbs 13:3).

Its a large bull but if you look at his arm width around the shark you can see it is not much larger. My guess is 550-650....

 I said the same thing yesterday when my g/f showed me the pic's. Was just about to post it up  Beat me to it LOL! Wonder where they got 1000lbs. My g/f looked all over for more pic's and full measurements. All she could come up with was the same article. That thing is huge! Hellava fish!

I always wonder who's in the show business.

Just an average fisherman.

In the 1980's we fished the biggest shark tournaments ever held in Florida's west coast and back then there were very big sharks put on the scales including the world record hammer 991 lbs,the still world record Dusky shark 760 lbs and many very big bull sharks near 500 lbs ,,,,never not once was there a 700 lb or 800 lb or 900 lb bull shark brought in to a scale .Some other impressive catches during those tournaments was Hank Smith's 1104 lb Tiger,a 840 lb Dusky that was never submitted for a world record and countless other Tiger sharks that exceeded 800 lbs but never a bull shark much over 500 lbs.I know there are an rare bull sharks out there that exceed 600 lbs and maybe even top 800 but beyond that I dare anyone to produce a picture or newspaper writeup of a bull shark topping 800 lbs.Rene de Dios's biggest bull shark caught on the old Bahia Honda bridge in 1982 was 10 ft 1 inch long and weighed 480 lbs after laying on the back of a truck half a day.
