Got a call from Josh (BlacktipHunter) asking if I wanted to make a final trip before I go back to school. 45 minutes later, we were on the beach, not the best surf, ripping current, windy and cold, but we put two jacks out hoping for anything.
An hour and a half later, the 80W goes off and the shark was making a good run, I set the hook and thought we were onto something big. Put some bend on my new rod.
Turned out to be a decent sized blacktip that was foulhooked just below the fin.
Came back after the release to see our blankets set aflame from our fire. Not the greatest end to the night, but makes for a fun story.
My first shark on my new rod and reel and a great start to the new year.

The trail hook got him right below the fin, where you would have tagged it. So he was coming in sideways against the current.
Thanks Will, I hope the first shark is the smallest and that SFSC puts some monsters on the beach in 2011.
