Spinner Mayhem 2/16/11
I decided to head out with the family with hopes of my 4yr old daughter getting to see her first shark up close. My hopes were high as I received plenty of calls by friends with paddle boards saying there were sharks everywhere. I had already set out the day before in search of fresh bait and was able to catch a nice Cuda.
We arrived at the beach at approximately 0930 hrs to find out that the entrance to the beach at one of Boca's parks were tore up and there was no access. Luckily, my friend said we can park at his friends house on the beach and unload our equipment. My friend was not really a fisherman so I thought it would be cool for him to catch a shark. The owner of the house decided to fish with us for a little while as well but was also unexperienced.
We had the lines in the water around 1015 and thats when the mayem began. Rods were going left and right and we broke off the first 8 sharks. My wife set the hook on a good spinner and the shark immediately launched itself out of the water and broke the wire. I had my light spinning rod get pulled into the water and spooled because I was trying to do too much at once and forgot to losen the drag. I finally smartened up and decided to only put out 2 rods. I put on heavier wire after having my size 12 break 3 times. After changing tactics we caught the next 5 sharks. I forgot to measure all of them due to the adreneline rush but my wife caught a nice 66 incher ( and her first shark ever) and my friend caught a 67. Overall it was an awesome day and the family had a blast. 3 people caught thier first sharks and the light tackle really made this a blast! Hope you enjoy the pics!

Great work Dave .Family and friends, the beach, the Florida sunshine, and the very exciting shark fishing adventure ,,,,,,it don't get any better then that. Congrats. You accomplished your goal of getting the family on the shark scene. Excellent. I know you had the drag a bit to tight on the spinner, and it was a simple mistake that we all make, but you have to admit it gets your juices flowing when the rod gets dragged to the water. I once dove and intercepted my rod as it was heading east.
