Small boat, big hammer!

I took my dad out on my little 18 footer for fathers day to do some fishing. We went out of port everglades, only about 2 miles or so. My dad likes to fish for stuff he can eat so we were using live bait, trying to catch dolphin or kings. But me, being a shark fisherman, i had to put at least one shark line out. I put a butterflied bonito out on my 12/0 and then the waiting began. We waited about an hour and a half and caught only a remora. Then my dad decides to take a swim to cool off. He is standing on the ladder about to jump in when the 12/0 starts going off. I only had one hook in the bait so i let the fish eat, set up, and began the fight. This fish was strong and started burinig line of the senator, heating it up pretty good. The shark went straight down, about 300 or 400 feet and thats where she wanted to stay. Every time i gained a few inches she took them back. This battle lasted almost 3 hours and wore me out. We ended up pulling this hammer up and reviving her for a little while and releasing her. It was hard to measure her and get good pics with only two people but we tried to line her tail up with the back of the boat and measure to where her head was. She was a little over 10 feet. After looking at the pics, i think she was a scalloped hammerhead but im not 100% sure. What do you guys think?

Me after about two and a half hrs.

The beast before we released her!

What a battle!!

This report reminds me of the first boat my brother owned in the early 1980's when we were in high school it was 25 foot John Almand Hardtop with single 6 cylinder inboard engine. At that time my brother Jorge had a girlfriend that lived on canal in North Miami Beach that wasn't far from Haulover inlet so every week after school we go out shark fishing.Usually we start a drift at about 300 feet of water for sharks and on one occasion when I wasn't able to go he fished with his friend Brett,On that day the hooked a MONSTER HAMMERHEAD over 14 foot they fought it for 3 1/2 hours on a 14/0 and every time they got the shark boat side they could not hold the shark between the both of them and the shark eventually cut the line on the old Vovo Penta 270 outdrive. Thanks for the awesome report.
