Shark Fishing Pics
These are some pictures from this year so far (Feb through June). Sorry guys, all I got for now is smaller reels (3/0s and 4/0s spooled with braid for capacity purposes) but once I get a little more $$$$ saved up and get some bigger reels I'll be able to get the bigger fish to the beach! In the meantime I've been messin' with these pups..John
Patiently Waiting
1st shark of 2010, February, Sandbar, about 5 ft or so
About a 120#er..caught on a piece of cut bait (small whiting)
Another Sandbar, 6'7"
The release
A gummer, about 7 and a half ft
Another gummer
Me and a passerby measuring my blacktip..5'10"
Lemon, 6'8"
My brother's first shark, and on his first time out..lemon, 6'6"
Time to take it out to the bulls
My brother and I posing with a BT
Courtesy of an estimated 7 ft tarpon..got 3 terrific jumps out of him and then he left me with this, circle hook must have stuck in the bone in his jaws, then got turned into a broken J hook!
Another lemon
6'2" bt
Bull shark, 7'
Wading out to try and work a shark around the jetty rocks at sunset
You want ray for bait? Try a dead pinfish on the bottom, all the ones I've caught on rod and reel this year have been on a dead pinfish or dead pilchard
Dehookin'
Fighting what I thought was a tarpon
If you want a big jack try a finger mullet during the daylight, live, dead, or cut chunks of bigger mullet (works good for big bluefish too)
small bt, 5'6"
same as above
Father's Day 2k10, 7'9" nurse
The worst picture I've ever seen anyone take of a shark or any fish period. I have a stupid look on my face because I was trying to explain how he should take the picture and he obviously didn't listen..6' bt
Different than the fish above, smaller 5' bt..I caught this one right before the 6 footer and had a cool picture of me with both of the bts side by side I wish I could find it.
Anyways, I'll have bigger and better fish for ya once I get the equipment for the job. The goons are out there lurkin right behind these pups..they have spooled me a few times so far this year. It is a very helpless feeling when you keep applying drag and the spool is still spinning as if it was in freespool.
Not too bad for 4/0's......you are west coast right?
I know "snookhunter" is looking to get rid of a 12/0 because he got two new reels....once you save up some $$$$$ he will sell it to you.
You will be fine with what you have for a little while....but when spring rolls around next year you'll get spooled if you don't get something bigger

Tight work with a small reel,,,,way to put them fishy on the beach with less then a 6/0.Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.Love that fatty bull and you look like you're pumped from working to get him on the beach because them bulls are sure nuff compact powerful fighting machines and can test even the big stuff.

Time to take it out to the bullsDid this bait work out for you? I'm curious if you hooked up with that small circle placed in the back of that bait.
Very nice report, great pictures.
As long as the gap is wide enough for my liking and its heavy duty enough for what I am doing and I can still get good barb exposure I like to use as small a hook as I can get away with..that way in case the fish doesn't drop the whole bait down the hatch in one gulp he can eat comfortably without so much metal clangin' in his jaws. Most of the baits I take out are about that size or a little bigger, depending on what I can get..it works pretty good, we get a hook in em about 85% of the time and the other 15%, a lot of that is the smaller nuisances that picked up a bait too big for them to eat.
Yelp, you guys need a bigger reel, because as many fish as yall catching a bigun is soon to come. It would be a shame to see the bottom of the spool and never know what ya had. That fish of a life time shows up at the least expected moment. Gota pay the bills first, and fish with whats left over.
