School's back in Session (tippers and rays)
Hey everyone. This is gonna be a quick report, just a few pier caught blacktips and a big ray. Haven't been able to fish as much lately because of school, but we are probably making another trip south this weekend. We haven't really been fishing our normal area lately due to big name resorts not wanting their tourists that sharks are off the beaches.... We've been driving about one hour south to fish, 9 fish in 5 day trips isn't too bad. Fishing down there is alot different than what we usually fish in Georgia also.
We left SSI at 5:00 and were down at the pier around 6:15. We got all the stuff out on the pier by sunrise. As the sun came up, water visibility sucked compared to the last time. We knew the cownose would be harder to see. We started to throw out some whiting rigs, and we couldn't even get the whiting to bite. It was tough going so far. We brought two bonito and a cuda with us, so we went ahead and yakked those out. About an hour later my 12 went off real quick with a huge 14 lb bonito out for bait. It dropped it really quick. Whatever it was ate the back end off and left the head of the big bonito. A little while later cam caught two great southerns for bait. One 30 lber and one 10 lber. A short while after than Andrews 6/0 wide with a chunk of cuda goes off. He hits him hard and a nice tipper shoots up. He jumped twice and fought good on the 6. Got him in a few minutes later.
After that we sent out the rays. Andrew sent out a wing from the 30 lber on the 10/0. Cam sent out the rest of the ray on his 80w, and i sent out the 10 ber whole on my 12. A few hours later cams 80 goes on a screamer, he hits it and winches in this blacktip.
Right after we got cams released I went back up on the pier to reel in my 12 as cam was about to re yak baits. I reeled the 12 all the way in when about 30 yards out i see my ray spinning. I also see two blacktips chasing it in. I throw it into freespool right at the base of the pier and about 4 seconds later one of the tips swoops it. Hit him and got him in quick.
Nothing else on that trip.

Will, Stuart, and Gil headed down yesterday to fish the pier. They caught a small southern and yakked it out live. Stu got this nice blacktip on his new avet 50.
We've also been getting on a few big rays like this one down at the marina gas dock.
Thats all for now, hope to be reporting soon. Lots of tigers being landed in the panhandle... ready to see the reports! Also ready to see some mullet run action on the east coast!
