Sandbar's Jan 20th and 21st. And 27th and 28th!(SURPRISE)

Sorry for the late report.

Friday January 20th, Dan and I (DanTheMan) descided to get together to catch some sharks. While gathering supply's and bait we get a call from a kid Dan knew named harry. Harry was already fishing manasota beach with a few of his friends and had gotten a 5ft sandbar. Instead of going to Boca we head over to Manasota to see what kind of sharks were around. For bait we had a good size southern ray and a mullet. Harry and his friends (fishing harry's 80w and a few 3/0's) were using mullet so Dan and i thought split the southern to have a better chance with bait. After hooking up the baits Dan yak's them out as far as possible my 12/0 Spooled to the brim with 130lb braid and a section of 130lb dacron connecting the 130lb Bull Buster mono, and Dan's 80w spooled with 200lb braid and 130lb bull Buster.
Both baits around 400-500yd's offshore we sat down for a rest. We had a nice feast of Green Tea and Clementine oranges. Me with some oranges Lol...

First reel off during the night was my Trusty 12/0, After quickly noticing the shark wasnt putting up much of a fight we already guess'd what kind of shark it was....A sand bar. Well a fat sandbar at that, a nice healty girl 6ft 6.

Representing SFSC!

After safely releasing her back into the gulf we descided to take a quick nap
Me

Dan LOL

Around 2 AM, we were suddenly awoken by the sound of Dan's 80w getting railed. It was so loud it woke Harry, Asleep all the way down the beach up. Dan grabs the reel and dose the running man all the way up the beach trying to hook the monster. He then sits in my beach chair to bring the monster in.
After Dan had fought it we had it to the sandbar but it broke off... :(
So after losing that shark we decide to pack it up and go home.
But the next day Saturday morning we decide to go on the boat in search of bait. All day long we follow schools of mullet and Gig a few mud rays, we look out at the gulf and decide to go out to our favorite reef because the water is looking nice. We head out with the 80 and 12/0 in hand.

After getting there we grab 2 big fresh mullet and put them on our hooks. About 30 mins later my 12/0 gets slammed by...You guessed it another SANDBAR. About the same length but not as fat.
After a long weekend of fishing dan and i head home exhausted and hungry... These are our after pics in the truck.
me

Dan lol.

This past weekend we got together again. On friday Jan 27th, We head down to boca to meet with our friend Alec (islandboyalec). After a night of jokes and what do we end up with? Dan getting a jew on his 80w...
Not a bad fish but very annoying... So after that we ended up leaving and going home for some food and rest.

Saturday night the 28th we decide to go to Manasota again to try for more sandbar's (it's better then jew fish). It was Dan, his cousin Dom and i on the beach. We were fishing my 12/0 Dan's 80w and Also dan's Green MXL. The MXL, the smallest reel of the group also has now gained the most respect...This is why. On Manasota we have found that from 11-2 is prime shark time but for some reason tonight nothing was biting... Around 1 AM i reel in my 12/0 with a mullet stripped to the bone hanging off my hook... We all start to get a little bit annoyed. But then Dan's MXL takes off, almost getting spooled twice and having to chase it down the beach the mxl catches something way over anyone's expectations of a reel that small. A 7-8ft plus hammer!!!!!!!! The hammer took so long for us to get in that we only got two pictures this is the one of dan's cousin holding it getting ready to revive it.

The other picture will be up later when Dan gets the memory card back.
Oh and lets not forget that that hammer fried Dan's MXL. But in the end Dan said "That's deffinatly worth sending it back to AVET".

After all i'd say we had 2 pretty good weekends fishing. Can't wait for the BHC, This year we are planning on getting some monsters.

And P.S, Sorry for horrible grammer ^^^^^^^^^^^

Seems they always pic up the smallest of baits, I bought an lx in hopes for one those and a couple blacktips, how was the mxl spooled? seems like you must have had a 1000 yards on there lol nice sharks and jewfish though

Just an average fisherman.
