These South African shark fishermen were on slippery rocks and now might end up in hot water.

Me personally being a shark fishermen for three decades would be tempted to fish for Great White sharks if I lived in a place like Mossel Bay South Africa.Having grown up during the movie Jaws era and all the Great White craze of those times and having dreams of one day catching the baddest creature in the sea, I believe that I would target Great Whites undercover with the intention of catching ,tagging and releasing the biggest Great White possible.I would not sink gaffs into the shark such as the knuckleheads in the above article did and then watch it bleed out on top of rocks with pounding waves but I personally believe the Great White shark could be effectively caught and released if the anglers involved knew how to properly and quickly measure, dehook, photograph and tag these beautiful creatures.Properly done tag and release of Great White sharks from shore could even help scientist better understand the movements and life cycle of these magnificent fish in any given area. The difficult part would be in convincing goverments of the fishermens good intentions to only catch, tag and release the Great Whites.

What do you think should Great White sharks be illegal to target if you are only interested in Catch,Tag and Release??

I think people should be allowed to target any species for catch and release..but what these idiots did was not a smart move by dragging a protected species onto the rocks with a gaff and letting it bleed all over the place, then broadcasting their stupidity to the world over the internet. Hard to say if that fish will survive because as far as great whites go that is just a pup

There is always the chance that you will catch a protected species whenever you go fishing, you cannot control what fish takes your bait, so why not make it legal to target all fish for catch and release. As for great whites I think it should be legal to target them since I am not quite sure how endangered they really are. Seems like whenever you see one of those TV shows featuring great whites they just dump some chum over the side then the whole boat is surrounded by them. You just have to know where to find them, its a big ocean.

Will if you lived there I believe all you would have to do is link up with the proper scientists and you could get the okay for the research, which is usually exempt from a lot of the fishing laws in the name of science. Even here in the states if hammers/tigers go on that list I would suggest 100% taping of catching, tagging and releasing of sharks the proper way to show these scientists/biologists and could help you get involved in these studies while still legally doing what you truely love
