Rough Water at Sebastian
Ansel and I started off with a fantastic bait fishing session. We had a good variety in about 45 minutes and plenty of it! That mullet is HUGE!!!

At 1:00 we pull up to a spot we wanted to fish and the waves were NASTY. Even the surfers we like "Screw That!!!" So we pay the $8 and set up at beach alongside Sebastian inlets south jetty. We figure the structure will give us some shelter while we're kayaking out baits. It sortof helped...

Paddled out 3 baits and was exhausted from it. I thought I got them away from the current, but I had one find its way around the jetty getting sucked into the channel. The guys fishing the jetty were pissed, so I made nice with them as I cleaned up the mess. Lost some line and had to paddle it back out. By now it was about 6:00PM and I was ready to drink beer, eat barbecue and let the baits soak.
At 9:30 the clicker goes off. Time to get back to work.

The fight didn't have a lot of action, but it was heavy. No hammerhead or bull shark on this hook. But there was a few head shakes so I knew it wasn't a nurse. After a 20-30 minute fight (we left the harness in the car), the reel was filling back up. I see a fin break the surface and saw it was a lemon shark. Ansel goes to the shoreline to work the leader and sees 7 feet of lemon shark. The problem is we didn't have the chance to measure it...

That's not a line that broke, that's the shock leader. Ansel had the shark in 6 inches of water when the leader snapped. He fell backwards while the shark swam away with 6 feet of cable and 2 feet of thick mono hanging from its lip. Judging from the pic, I don't think it was a tail slap that broke the leader. If it was, then that shark was closer to 8 feet and I'm not so sure about that. That had to have been dragged over something sharp.
No pics. No tagged shark. My body is sore from all the hardcore kayaking. Good times none the less. Better than getting skunked.
I had a bait get sucked into Jupiter inlet after I yak'd out a bait in rough water during the BTC. Luckily the guys on the jetty were pretty cool and I was able to get all the line back. The brick was still attached and busted off in the jetty rocks just after I got the bait over the rail. That water was rippin!
