Red Tide Shark Fishing
On Friday my father and I headed down to my parents house on Palm Island in SW Florida to do some scheduled maintenance and at night I would go shark fishing. We pulled up in the driveway and you can't miss the smell... red tide. There has been red tide on and off for over 3 months now. I hit the beach and was greeted by even more red tide. I put out my 12/0 and 14/0 anyways with some bait I had left over from an east coast trip the week before. A big bonita that I cut in half, a small ray, and a jack. I deployed baits 45mins before sunset and within 10 mins the short drop went screaming and out jumped a 7' spinner. I fought and almost had it in when the hook pulled. Then right before sunset the 12/0 went off again and I quickly landed a 6' 9" sandbar. Thanks to the people on the beach that took the pictures for me.
I was rerigging when the 14/0 took off and I landed a 6' 7" spinner. Thanks again to the people on the beach who took the pictures.
My father then showed up after I had redeployed both baits and at 8:45pm the 14/0 went off again and I landed a 6' 5" spinner.
That was the last hit of the night and all day saturday we worked around the house. I had no bait left and with only a few hours before sunset on saturday I went out in the boat trying to scavenge for fish. The red tide had wiped everything except some sheepshead out (I guess they're immune) and I was able to get 3. I quickly headed to the beach solo again and was excited to see the same people were not far away again and they would come in handy again. Right before sunset the 14/0 took off and I landed a 6' 5" spinner.
When dehookers dont work... stick your hand in its mouth.
Sunset the second night
My father showed up right after I released the shark and about 30 mins later the 14/0 took off again and I let my father catch a 6' 2" Sandbar.
No more hits after that but who can complain? We landed and released 5 sharks during the red tide. Although my clothes will permanently stink like dead mullet and red tide it was well worth it.

Way to go Trevor, you actually did a fine job fishing the Red Tide with a total of 5 sharks caught between you and your dad .That's a fairly large spinner at 6' 7",CONGRATULATIONS.
