Nuclear skitters, big baits and scrawny sharks- 8/3/2010

Just when you think you've got a top notch plan in place to produce fabulous results deep into your adventure can creep other unforseen variables can derail the finest of big fish dreams.Big baits ,right baits meant nothing on this night because on this occasion unsummer like weather jilted the nerves of the inexpierienced yakki yakkers but those fortunate enough to fight through fears and dark waves found a small degree of satisfaction in a few hush puppies not worth the bait they were caught on.Not every shark fishing trip turns out perfect or goes off without a glitch ,,,but so what!!! ;we push and move forward in the face of adversity & physical hardship.Every shark hunter that fishes in the summer does it knowing full well he will suffer every time ,his body pushed to the limit of misery in humid ,bug infested places just so we tangle with an unseen monster that wants to defeat us.To escape our reality,to seek an adventure ,to fight something powerful or to challenge ourselves each one with a similar or different reason we go again and again to hunt and seek, all the while putting ourselves through the misery of sweaty, humid summer nights with mosquitoes that slurp the "off"spray as if it were there Gatorade .Heat and humidity that drains your reserves and soaks your sleeping bag and sand that sticks to every inch of sweaty skin makes this a sport of attrition- the weak fall prey to the adversity and hardships but we aim to teach the valuble lesson of never giving up and so we hope we will produce strong shark hunters that will learn to prevail and dominate in a very tough sport.
We had a tough night battling the elements but overall we had mixed results.Lui lost one nice shark in the wash after fighting it a while .We did catch two blacktips and one lemon and withstood a whole lot of humid, sweaty misery.Suffice it to say that at sunup the nuclear mosquitoes were still munching on our sweat soaked bodies.Time for a new strategy to deal with the blood thirsty vermints.
Thanks to Big Will,Irma,Shawn,Lui,Tony and Alex for the shared moments on the beach -next time ,,ALWAYS NEXT TIME.

Thats sounds like my only trip of July to shark fish in "the devil's lair". I've been thinking since then and the only solution that i've come up with is dress so that no skin is showing. I'm talking gloves, shoes, hats, hancherchiffs, long pants, and longsleeves. I know its going to be hot, but its summer anyways and your sweating no matter what. The mosquitos are without a doubt tougher to fight for 12 hours than any shark i've hooked for 2+ hours. Nice post Will. It's the exact truth.
What is everybody else's strategy to dealing with the summer bugs?
try using a Thermacell http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/ they work great I use them hunting as well as fishing Good report as usual to bad there were no monsters but there is still plenty of time left to get that big bull
