nearly 8 foot bridge caught jewfish- tarpon j
john and i both had two good sized southern rays laying in the freezers at home so we decide to take an adventure to the bridge to drop them and get a big shark. we sat and waited for 6-7 hours without a single run, even the tarpon didnt bite the entire time. it was looking like we were about to get skunked real bad, and then right when slack tide hit johns 12/0 gets a run that goes parallel to the bridge. he sets it and fights it for awhile not knowing what it is, its a goodsized fish and pulls drag out away from the bridge. meanwhile im grabbing everything we need to help land this fish i keep my headlight on the line the whole time. then the line goes under the bridge and the rod is at the point of snapping. the rod is an 8 foot 100 lb class rod and is definitely being pushed past its capabilities. i push the rod up and so does john, it takes everything we got to move the fish away from the pilings. just then it finally surfaces and its a massive goliath grouper. i guess its like a 5-6 foot goliath from the top of the bridge but when i get down there to land it i see the size of this things head and i immediately yell its eight foot man!! he runs down gets pics and measurements and we release it.7' 8" a true monster of the deep. congrats to john!

Hey man I just got the pics you sent, very nice I love the fight pic! See that car in the background on the way to work at 5am while we're out fishing like a couple of jerks!! haha.. Thanks a lot for your help with that ugly SOB! What a waste of size with a fish so hideous!! Let me know when you want to go again I usually go 2 or 3x a week..we can try some beaches that way we don't need to worry about getting our rods snapped in half
