Monster Hammerhead Caught From Pier (Full Moon)

Well I got to the spot at around 5 pm. I was ready and excited to fish the full moon a.k.a the "hammer moon". Casted some bottom rods out and waited till dark. Ended up catching some jacks and a few bluefish. Finally night came and I decided to throw out a butterflied bluefish on the 50w. The setup was a Shimano TLD 50 with 800 yds 65lb powerpro backing with 400 yds 100lb bullbuster mono topshot. At 8:00 p.m. the 50w goes out steady. I let him eat for about 10 seconds then put the rod on the rail and locked it down. Immediately there were massive head shakes and then just a steady run that lasted almost an hour. Finally after and hour I started to gain some line back. When I got my mono back on I knew I was gonna land this fish. After fighting this fish with no harness or belt and all by myself for 1 hour and 40 minutes I saw a glimpse of the beast. She was enormous. The pictures don't do it justice. After seeing the girth I realized she was a pregnant female. At that point I decided we had to cut her off. The surf was 6-8ft and if we would have beached her she would have died. After cutting the line and watching her swim off I had officially landed my first and largest hammer. Truly a fish of a lifetime. I only hope one day I can catch another monster so I can get some pictures with her. Below are pictures and an awesome video I am sure you will enjoy.

Thanks,
Mike

Damn good fight on the tld, surprised it didn't blow up. Nice hammer. In the video it was funny when I heard a (possibly drunk) guy say: damn this guy's bigger than the one in the newspaper!

Just an average fisherman.

Absolutely AWESOME :o ! Id say between 11ft 6 - 12ft 6. And I commend you for your decision to just cut it. Oh and make sure that TLD is good inside.
