kayak bull

My buddy tyler decided to go out solo on his kayak with a heavy spinning outfit and a mullet in some serious cold out at ding darling. We went out there a couple times before with smaller reels but got our asses handed to us a few times. the spot we go to is very shark infested mostly bulls and blacktips and bonnetheads cruising the flats. Tyler anchored up and drifted a bait for about half an hour when his reel starts screaming, the bull made a lot of good jumps and he fought it for about almost an hour. I asked tyler a couple days before to try and get me a blacktip to soak out at boca grande, so a couple nights later he calls me up and says he just got a 5 foot bull to use as bait(right on). back to the story, tyler has the bull boatside trying to hold on to the shark for dear life, the shark is thrashing and beating the crap out of him, and managed to sock him in the nose with its tail, causing a nosebleed. after the shark spazzes out tyler ropes its tail up and drags it backwards trying to drown it. hours go by and the shark is still alive so tyler somehow gets the shark on the front of his kayak and ropes it down without even getting out of his kayak, later that night he drives to my house and i get the jaws out and cut it up for bait :ugeek:

shark smoked a stella in about 5 seconds pretty funny considering my buddy sean that owns it claims it can catch any fish in the sea
........(none of the shark was wasted )

Nice report. Fin Nor OFS9500 has 60lb drag, 75% cheaper, about 25% more line capacity and louder clicker comparing to a stella STL20000SW rated at 55lb $1,000.

If you live around Boynton Beach, go to D i c k's Sporting Goods, they have Fin Nor OFS9500 reel there for sale. I don't remember the price tough. That's gonna be my next spinning reel to match my 15ft daiwa surf rod.

Nice going, great catch from a yack. As far as shark for bait can't beat a black tip cut in half . We had a good run this week at seven miler on a half of blacktip . The tail section. :o :D

:D Nice catch from a yak on a spinning outfit. I love my large stellas (10000sw, 20000sw) and have caught large sharks/100lb goliaths but from a pier. Fishing from a kayak is a different animal. Great job with that stellaFa, what size is it? Also, for the finnor comment, over the years fin nor has made some great products but in spinning i have not seen it. They are now owned by quantum and their large spinners weigh a ton, plus feel cheep. There is a reason the 9500 is 75% cheaper. Personally in that pricerange, under 300$ id rather have a cabo

this man speaks the truth. i would rather get a cabo80 over a fin nor. i got to play with one of the off shore series spinning reels and they dont have instant anti reverse and very very heavy. i have a cabo40 for snook fishing and other inshore fishing and i love it. best reel i have owned.

cabo80 has only 320yds at 20lb, vs fin nor 600yds at 20lb. Lets not forget that we talk about spinning reels for shark fishing, not spinning reels for other species were you would keep your rod in your hands all the time. The weight don't matter when you surf fish, but the line capacity and drag power does.

I wouldnt take the manufacturers word on the specs, people are getting 30-35lbs max drag out of them and not smoothly either. Not to mention burning them up after a 1-2 100lb tuna. Line capacity isnt right either, 350yds of 80braid (what people have put on the ofs9500) isnt more than what ive put on my 20000 (465yds packed). Plus ive fished mine for almost 2 years, caught 6sharks over 5ft on it, 3goliaths 60-130lbs, handful of 30-40inch reds and snook. Oh and snagged a ton of 15-30lb cownose rays that i just reel straight up and flip over the railing at skyway pier. Well worth the price difference in my book, never replaced anything except grease and line!

The burning problem can be fixed by applying Cal's grease on the carbon drag before fishing with this reel. It would make the drag smooth as well.
I'm not sure were you came up with thous numbers as far as line capacity, but i can tell you this: my okuma avenger 90 that i own has 500yds of 80lb braid, and the spool is smaller then fin nor os9500, which to me that tells me that thous numbers are correct.

the numbers came from a few different people on different forums, testimonials. And i would have more braid on my 20000 if i packed it wet and went with a more rounded braid than powerpro, but i had the pp laying around

ill throw in my input now i have three 9500s all three have 600 yds of 65 power pro on them yes they are heavy but they arent ment to be held on all day. i have locked mine down and there is no pulling out the drag landed many sharks on all and no probs. biggest yet is a 10 ft bull stopped him quick. no anti reverse is perfect jus more to go wrong what if you bump your reel on ur side and engage ur stella. can you say mess imo best big game reel for the price they are tanks.
