July Report - Where are the tigers!

It's been a while since I had anything worth reporting. Had some fun with the spring tippers, then they got annoying.

April, May, and June were horrible for me. I was constantly one step behind the big fish. I fished from palm beach to Pompano, and even headed out to the SW coast and the west coast between two trips. Seer reports of big fish in the area, get there and , notin!

I lost a good one on the west coast. Got a parking ticket at a new spot. Had little guys tear my baits up on the east coast. Had my 200 lb braid get severed by something swimming by on the west coast and had my 250 mono chomped through by something else swimming by on the east coast. Sat through a good storm just to get some west coast weeds on my 130 line that eventually snapped in the rough water when I tried to retrieve my bait.

At the end of June I was on an eight day binge, I was determined to get something good on the sand and I was going to fish every night (weather permitting) until I did it. There were some rough days at work after a long night out, and then repeat!

I got my buddy hooked up on the Friday before the new moon but his crimp failed on the main line. I think he will stick with a Uni or Palomar knot from now on.

I finally got myself what I was lookin for, the next night when I got a solid lemon on the T-RX 50W. First fish on the reel and that drag is tough! I am going to lower the pre set. I almost ended up in the water when that hook was set!

Next night out I got a small tipper on the small rod so it was cool.

I was skunked the next two trips out. The little fish were hittin and keepin us on our toes.

First trip: My buddy did the runnin man on a fish and it stopped him in his tracks, spun him around and brought him to down to one knee. Damn fish didn't get stuck though, spit the whole bait. Wire was kinked into a J shape so we figured that fish inhaled the whole bait.
My other buddy got a tipper on the spinning gear. That's always fun.

Second trip: I'm gettin toyed with by little ones again and my buddy gets hooked up with something big on the spinning gear, we assume lemon shark based on the passed. Solid fight for several minutes but he was cut off.

We went on a charter and got some food and fresh shark bait. I was stoked!

Went out with big rod and a little rod. Got a small tipper on the big rod and a medium tipper on the small rod. Couple baits stolen.

Go out again, bring in a bait and it has big teeth marks in it, but the drag never screamed :( drop another bait and it is picked up within ten minutes. Between then, a small boat picks up my buddy's line. He stopped the boat in it's tracks, gotta love that Makaira. He was able to retrieve all his braid before the prop cut through the mono.

We are standing there and then my reel goes off on a slow roll, nice and steady. I lock it down and start cranking. After a minute I knew it was a Nurse or maybe a small tiger (based on how I heard they fight) and when I get it to shore I hear "Wa Wuh Waahhhhh"
Got the nurse curse :(

Nice report. Where'd you guys get that lemon? and on what bait? I'm itching to catch something bigger than a small tipper on that rod I bought from you. :)
