After last nights crazy bite we hit it up again. Had Christina, Jen, Mike, and me as a crew. Yaked out the 14/0 with a cownose, 6/0 with a 4 pound drum, another 6/0 with a cownose wing and mikes 9/0 with big ol chunk of spanish.
The bite was not as good as the night before due to a front was already on top of us and it had been pouring rain half the day. But with everything else the way it should be for this spot I could not pass the chance to fish it hard.
30 Mins pass and we are looking out over the water and see a huge spinner come out the water at the same moment Mikes 9/0 goes slack but spit the hook before he could do anything. He reeled it in checked the bait and I re yaked it out. 20 mins later it get a hard hit but no luck again bait was destroyed.
He rigged up more of the spanish about 3# worth and out it goes.
About a hour later we reel one of the 6/0 that had the drum and put a 2# chunk of spanish on. Yaked it out and 20mins later christina is hooked up
15 mins later she gets this ray on the sand
Mike had a long day at work and at 2145 he desideds its time for him to head home he makes it about 5 feet when his 9/0 starts to roll he gets the hook set and its on but runs right at the beach about 25 yards out it changed its mind and burns the line off the reel as it headed for the deeper water. the 9/0 was almost fully locked down but it was not slowing this fish. it took over 250 yards on the tight drag. We just knew we got the big one.
the fish slows then turns and runs at the beach gets within 100 yards and off agian another 200 yards.
this happens two more times
Mike is getting wore out after 35 mins of this I leader the fish tail rope it and
Lemon 8'2" fool hooked
Fish 30 more mins and pack it up.
