Oh dear God! How many stitches did it take to close it? Did he have to be hospitalized? I'm so sorry this happened to him.

They did not stitch it up they were worried about the bacteria but that makes you think twice about your next move

Good thing it was only a three foot bull a 7 or 8 footer would of taken off the whole foot.Always work as a team and always stay clear of the sharks mouth at all cost because you have the danger of not only the bite but many times and just as dangerous is the free swinging secondary hook that can impale you and thrust you into the gapping jaws of your catch. This happened to me a few years back during the Big Hammer Challenge and was lucky that as soon as the secondary got me the blacktip spit the primary hook so the jaws did not get me also.Still ended up in Delray medical with stitches and a $1200 emergency room bill. Ouch!!

lol topwater he is doin fine i just changed his bandages and it doesnt look as bad as it did then its bruised on the big toe but the big gashes are not as bad. it just goes to show dont take the lil ones for granted thats when u get it. no we tried to keep it as quiet as possible told the dr n nurse we tag n release sharks so they put it as occupational hazard instead of shark attack so i was happy bout that.

Very lucky tendons weren't severed with that bite as well. About 3 week ends ago a young buck that we were fishing with at sky way fought & landed his first shark..an 8ft 10 & 1/4" lemon. A big female & still green at that. We had to walk her down to the rocks to unhook & release & in the process, myself & another fellow sharker had just gotten through telling this very excited adrenaline pumped angler to stay clear of the swing radius of the head while we try to unhook & send her off. Not even 2 seconds after we got through saying that, the lemon made a lightning fast swing to the right & came down with her mouth on the very rock his foot was not even a second before. It happened so fast,I knew it was an extremely close call for him just by what I had seen not even 2 ft away.I knew it was close but it was confirmed how very close it was from the people on the top side looking down. After that happened,he went around to the other side to help..only to get bitch slapped by the tail & sent into the water & rocks. He fought this shark like a pro & followed instruction well up until the time she was on the rocks. I'm by no means disrespecting or talking trash,I'm just saying that we tell you younger anglers these things so when you leave your pier/beach/bridge to go home, home is where you go & not to the emergency room.

Ya play with fire ya gona get burnt. A little flesh and blood given for ya adrinlin fix ant so bad. I say the shark ant the most dangrous thing for the land based sharker. The water and the waves combined with a rock or sand bag tied to it with a sharp large hook in the tangle when ya turn over. Or a splice geting caught in the eye of the rod and puting the hook in ya belly causing ya to turn over with a beach rock tied to your hooked butt. I can swim to the beach but the story is diffrent when a hook is some where in ya. I also once had a boat run between me and the beach and caught my line. I was in an allumnum canoe and had the hook on the rear cross bar. Wow what a ride! it drug me side ways in the canoe for probaly 50 yds or so. Thank god the hook was secure and did not come flying out and get me on the way out.It took the boat off plane, by that time the dummy looked back and saw me in the swamped canoe and Sean on the beach. He got the line off his motor and left me with a swamped canoe. If I could have got my hands on him his boating days would have been over. Every one please wear a life vest and never let go of ya boat. We will live through a shark bite but when ya drown, ya are dead.
