Full Moon Hammer From Team Apex!!
We started off the afternoon by hitting the beach around 5pm with Chris,Mike and myself, setting up all the rods and rigs.By 6pm we were ready to start dropping our baits.Chris and mike start off by going double on the tandem kayak and doing two drops at once.By the time they hit the beach on the return i was still getting rigged up after holding their reels. As i get in the kayak mikes 80w starts to run like a bat out of hell, with no sings of stopping. He sets up and all hell breaks loose as the shark rips line from his reel like it was in free spool. After a 30min fight we came up with a nice 9'1" hammer head.We had a great release with the hammer off on his way with out a hitch.
Since the fight started at sun down,we had gatherd a nice crowd of about 30 people on the beach witch was not what we were looking for.One of the nice toursit were nice enought to call the police and report that we were abuseing a shark on the beach. We were greated by an officer of the City police dept.I have to say that i have never meet a better person than the office that came out to the call.He spoke with us and saw that we knew what we were doing, and laughed at the call.We showed the officer some pics of the catch and as well made a new sharking partner. The night finished up with three more runs but no more hook ups.All in all a great night, and made a new friend that will be hitting the sand with in the time to come.
TEAM APEX
Very nice work Nick and team Apex. You guys are really starting to become a cohesive shark fishing machine with the capture of the 10 ft 3 inch tiger last year and now the hammer.Congratulations!!!I expect to see great things from your team in 2009. Like Maddawg said it's a good thing you got a police officer with a cool head to talk to you and not some shmuck on a power trip. These problems are part of what we in Dade and Broward county with typically crowded beaches have to put up with frequently but as land-based shark fisherman who wish to continue fishing the beaches we have to adapt to each unique situation, learn to deal with the crowds and the authorities, keep a level head and act in a responsible way in order to overcome the obstacles that are constantly in our way.Atleast the fisherman in Palm Beach county and north are lucky to have many more isolated beaches without crowds to fish from. Again-Thanks for sharing with us Nick.
