Fishing 1/30/11 with RonG --Ft Pierce Bluewater Sharking
So i get a call from my bud Ron Geraci (RonG) and he wants to go Fishing on sunday, Just works out that i have sunday off and am free. So We meet at the ramp in Ft pierce at 630 a m and with a smooth boat launch we are off to go offshore in search of a Mako ( atleast i was wanting one) , No mako on this day instead ron and his sister caught several bonita ( 6 ) and i captained the boat saving my strenght for the battle with what i hope was to come, after several hours of trolling and a box of fresh bait , we headed about 18 miles offshore to present the smooth flat deep blue water with some fresh bonitos halfs. as soon as we stopped and decided to drop shark baits it was on . I was hooked up within 5 mins with a huge shark. which put my 6/0 wide to the test and the shark won. after re rigging again another shark but i failed to hook it fully. yet again anither bait and another hookup again he spit it . now ron get a run and the sharl gets off, yet again, as the 12/0 is out on a balloon we see a nice 9-10' hammer circling the bait and we see it eat it and spit it several times. Ron gets a screaming run and he is on. its a nice fat bull. I finally land one as well. what a great day. I do believe that we would have had more fish hit the boat if we had more time to fish. I know that we did not catch the mako we were after but it was a great day with great people , and we did land a few, it was awesome to get back out fishing again , especially with all the drama the winter has brang for me, finally things are settling down and I have to thank Ron for the trip, i really needed it and it helped me reembrace with my shark fishing passion, i cant wait to go again.
yeah we had a blast couldnt keep the sharks off the line. using 1/2 bonitas for bait everytime we dropped it in we got a run, problem was getting either tail whipped or the kings in the area were cutting us off , chasing the line, then there were the non hooks and spits, anyways it was fun and we caught a few. just have to get back out and do it again. this time we will be loaded for bear. there were some big sharks out there, and seeing the hammers on top cruising our baits was awesome.
