Went out the other nite to a beach ive been wantting to fish for awhile now, first time ive ever been there.
On my way i stop by my buddie nicks house to pick up his yack an some extra bait he had, i put out a whole 15lb bonita on the 14/0 an big grouper head on the 12/0 an another grouper head on my 9/0. it was only me an my chick out on the beach, i get baits out by about 1:30a.m as soon as i get off work the water is flat just a slight breeze an hardly no current. as we are laying there the 12/0 goes off an is dropped picked up again so im thinking little shark let him eat set the hook an nothing. (later found out my hook doubled back)lay there till about 3:30 an my 14/0 goes off solid cocky hit one bite took the whole bonita i let him eat nail my drag run up the beach setting the hook, the shark spins me around an i go to the sand to begin battle the shark is pulling drag out like nothing an at the same speed he hit the bait as if not to even feel the hook or my hammered down drag as he is strippin all my line all i can do is hope to turn him an as im thinking this im asking myself what am i going to do with a fish this big on the beach by myself?. the fish stripps me down to less then an 1/8 of a spool of bran new 130lb full spool an the secondary gets hung on the bottom an ended up pulling the hook out of the shark! i dont have much pictures due to my chick was in awh over this. the shark was way to slow to be a hammer, im thinking some kind of record bull or big tiger

Shark fishing is like that, you never know what you're gonna hook or when,, it's what keeps us on the hunt winter, spring ,summer or fall.Sounds like you had a 9 foot plus bull, a big tiger or even an older slower hammer could hit and fight that same way.I hope you switched to a better hook up from them so called penny hooks our "partner"introduced you to a few years back.Just remember a big shark will find the weak link in your gear and you will kick yourself in the ass for not having changed that frayed line ,or changing them worn out old washers,or as in this case using a cheap hook that straightens out from the pull of a huge shark. Was that Nick (zasik)?

Next time you will get em!!!

Wow! That was an awesome report! That got me pumped! Getting stripped all the way down to an 1/8 of spool on a 14/0 is just insane! Sounds like one of those unstoppable beasts! Keep it up!

I'm getting restless sitting here at work in Illinois waiting to come down to Anna Maria in the first week of August. I need to catch me some sharks.

Those big bulls will put it on ya some times. The 9'2" bull i caught off the bay bridge striped 500yds off my 16/0. Joeys 8'4"bull he caught the other day did the same thing. Mean ball of muscle. But ya never know what ya had. Good luck next time.

I guess good and bad you lost him.Doesn,t sound like you could have stopped him if he hadn,t caught up your 2nd hook.Would have lost all that line and still not known what hit......but sounds like you found a nice new spot.....Dave
