First shark Sanibel Island Thanks SFSC

First off I want to thank all the people on the site that have helped me and gave me valuable information. Now I do not post on here much so I am not sure who has helped me the most, but the information that I have read from here was probably the most help. So again Thank you so very much. Now on to the story.
2011 was the first year that I traveled to Florida, Sanibel Island to be exact. I fished a little there and didn’t catch much but catfish, and went to the bait shop and tried to get better info. I explained that I wanted to catch something that I don’t already catch in Kansas. They said that I could fish for sharks, I was in great disbelief that sharks were that close to the shore. Anyway I tried to catch a shark with the wrong equipment, with not even a bite.
2012 we went back for a week and a half and I fished every day, This time with better equipment. But I could not catch anything again. I did get some runs this time, But I was trying to catch them with just braided line and was breaking line left and right. Went home without a shark again.
2013 It is now a family vacation that my wife and I take every year with our now 4 year old son. I planned for a full year on this trip. I upgraded my equipment, my line, my setup, hooks, my bait, my approach, ect. I read anything I could find on this site. I reviewed youtube videos to help with setup and baiting hooks. It was my first time on a kayak as well, in the end this is what I used.
I used an 6/0 senator and Fin-Nor st50. I spooled each with as much 150lb power pro braided line (1000yds on the st50 and 875yds on the senator). I used 16/0 circle hooks with doubled up 250lb wire. I used (don’t laugh) trimmer line that was the size of my 2.2mm crimps and made that 20’, with 2.5’ of the doubled up wire. I then wrapped most of the hook and all the wire in electrical tape, and causeway rocks to keep the bait in place.
I kayaked about 250 yards out at about 9:15am on the Sanibel Lighthouse point. Bait was out about 25 mins and it started running. It was a solid run not fast not slow just consistent. Let it run for about 40 seconds. And then set the hook. 45 mins later sharks on the bank. He was not very big so no exciting stories about reeling him in. When I set the drag he never pulled out any line. He did pull me towards the water 3 times but that was it. If it was bigger I may have been in trouble cause it was not allowing line to go out. This was on the ST50. I must say that drag is unbelievable.

Anyway heres the pics of my first shark. It’s a baby and no where near my 400-600lb goal. Aprox 5.5’Bull Shark. Anyone that give me an approx weight I would appreciate it.

I did not do much shark fishing after that but on the last day. I used a 10lb piece of cobia, something hit it and ran for about 7 seconds dropped and never came back. That was out at Blind Pass. That was a little scary cause I was kayaking in 2.5’ swells on a little 8’ sit on top Kayak. Lets just say 1 bait was enough for me out there. Sanibel really never has waves (not while were normally there) so I was not used to that.

Congrats on your first shark..that's a pretty good area you're fishing. As for moving here..I'd STRONGLY advise against it. Most people are trying to get out of that area, myself included and I cannot wait!!!!!!!
