I have been fortunate to do this before.
I don't know if how you did it but,
We used an Avet SX on an 8ft 15-30 rod spooled with 20lb hi-vis, tied to a HUGE weighted treble. We would watch the gator come up and throw over him, and WHAM! I fought him, and brought him next to the boat, and got him with a crossbow.
One of the most fun, exhilarating, and just awe-inspiring things to do with a fishing rod
