December 2013 Report - Month of stolen baits

It was a fun month. The weather did not provide too many great days to hit the beach but we got out a couple times.

Jeff got a Tipper in Palm beach, first shark he's landed on the Avet that he could actually feel. We were all stoked about this shark.

We hit Pompano the following week. Jeff brought out his new 12' Hobie Yak. I took it out and wanted to test it's stability over the Ocean Kayak Frenzy. The hobie Failed. It has been sold LOL. Beach was active with two other groups fishin. Jeff beached a 7' bull for one of the groups before he got his own fish.

Jeff got another Tipper. This time he yakked out a chunk on his spinning gear. Tipper put up a great fight for him.

I hit one of the ponds by my house for an hour and I got a Hound Fish. It was strange b/c this pond is 100% freshwater and I have heard of these guys in brackish or salt water.

We went out the next week and the night was pretty quiet. The guys took off and I stuck around for a little longer. While I was packing up, I stepped on a broken beer bottle in the sand by the high tide mark. While it was bottoms up, it broke and a piece of glass came off the side and got me by the heel. I thought it was coral at first but I couldnt find anything. I found the glass 5 minutes later and looked for more. It was a small laceration but deep and the bleeding wouldnt stop, even after a rinse with cold salt water and packin cold sand on it. Remember guys, always clean up and ALWAYS pick up your GLASS. I was off the racquetball and volleyball courts for 10 days.

I took advantage of the blood and dipped it in the water a few more times! (couldnt hurt, right?) Couple more minutes and the spinning rod goes off! I got a fat tipper off a chunk of the cuda that Jeff had soaked for a few hours LOL. I had yet to get a tipper on the spinning gear so I was super excited. This thing jumped more than a tarpon! The fish had the upper fin for a little bit since I only had one good foot to stand on. I was able to snap a pic before I de-hooked and released him. It's always "Pics or it didnt happen" when you're SOLO.

There was a Sharpnose or two this month, even a bluefish. Strange month b/c we had brought it baits that had been picked clean and baits that were untouched.

I got a sharpnose last night on the 14/0. The brick line never snapped so I couldnt figure out what was on there LOL, it was heavy and a shaker, but not a fighter!

Waitin for some cold weather to push some big sharks our way south.

Good job and nice fish. One time I found a hypodermic needle in the high tide wash up...

Excellent write-up, thanks for sharing it with us.On the topic of the cut heel with the broken bottle I always tell the fishermen to leave the beach better then you found it and that means picking up not only your own trash and old baits ,but doing some volunteer work and if you see any loose trash nearby pick it up and put in a nearby waste basket PLEASE.WE can help keep our public spaces beautiful or we can lose the privilege of access ,and live with increased enforcement and rightful harassment by the local police department. On the subject of baits coming in entirely fresh and untouched --that often happens during the winter months but seldom in the hotter months.
