Crzy night but no results
Last night we went up to Palm Beach with high hopes to catch a nice hammer like Team Hardhookers. We got an extremly late start because one of my friends had an issue gettin outa work so we got to the beach around 11pm. Alex kayaked the first bait out while I rigged up the rest of the rods and when he dropped it I went back to the rod reel up the slack in the fishing line because of the huge waves ( that flipped our kayak each and everytime we turned to head in) and I find that there is a bunch of slack. Frusterated because I think the rock was not tied right or something I ask my gf to reel up the rest while I head down with to the water with another rock for the bait. The wahoo head I had put out comes back totally torn apart and thats when we knew the sharks are out there. Since its late and the people I'm with are all novice fishermen I tell them I will take out the next bait. When I return my friend Alfredo comes running towards me saying that the rod is gettin hit. I run to the rod and set the hook, handing the rod to Alex so that he can catch his first shark. He fights it for about ten minutes and I can tell its a decent size shark when all of a sudden the lines goes slack. I yell at Alex to reel as fast as he can so because I think that the shark is headed straight at him, but the line come up frayed about 25 yards from where I think my 20 foot rig had started and somwhere near where the swivel used to be it was a clean cut. Basically my 200 lb test fishing line met up with several sharks during the fight. The seas are picking up but I suck it up and take out another bait same thing happens that happened with the wahoo it gets hit but drifts back to the beach because the sharks bit the mono connecting the rock. We took one more bait out that also got hit with the same thing happened a little frustrating I admit but awesome because we never were able to get more then one bait out. The seas then picked even more then before and it became basically impposible to kayak the baits out so we called it a night and hunkered down for a little nap before the ride back this mornin. We'll prob be heading back sometime in the early afternoon that way we can be there for the offshore breeze instead of the onshore breeze and it will be a lot less rough.

Ah a typical blacktip infested night in West Palm. Always have a surf rod with a big spinning reel loaded with braid during this time of the year. Sometimes it's just impossible to keep a bait out. You only need to use bait the size of a credit card for Blacktips. I sometime use just enough bait to cover the hook. Use small hooks, big hooks will miss them everytime.
Great Report Though! Keep at it, there are some very big Hammers feeding on those tips. I got the call yesterday that several big Hammers were spotted yesterday morning! ![]()
