Cayo Costa Shark Trip
I was invited to hit up Cayo Costa State Park last week the night before the cold front. I was happy to go since this is Cmoney7, Ineenabonita's and friends annual trip for Sandbar sharks and they have had success in the past. And let me say that again.... In the past.
6 guys and 4 of them packed for bear since we new it was going to be in the 30's and the other 2, well, I don't really know what to say except what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. We were on an island and 2 of the guys (Austin and Tim) brought fishing gear and the clothing on their backs. BIG MISTAKE that they will never make again. Temps dropped to the 30's every night and we either put our bodies in the fire or ran back and forth to the cabin for a round trip of 2 miles to stay warm. Slayed the ladyfish on the 1st day for bait and then everything shut down. Jacks, Permit, Moonfish and a dead blacktip washed upon the shore from the drop in Temp. I thought Tim and Austin were also going to freeze to death.

Look at the pain on his face due to not having the correct gear.

The giant infant in his onesie.

Austin dug a pit 5ft down and we were in the fire at times to stay warm.

The only shark we saw on the trip.

Shark wrester went into the water to drag out the dead shark for an examination.

I usually remember the trips we catch sharks and try to forget the others, but I think this trip will leave a lasting impression on all.

The combination of freezing cold and no sharks for 72 hours is a new "personal best for being hardcore". The trip was definitely something that will never be forgotten.
That reminds me of my two best lines of the trip.
1 - Well you're not hardcore unless you live hardcore, but the legend of the rent was way hardcore! - "The School of Rock"
2 - This is a fish-in trip, not a bitch-en trip.
I know there were a few others that expressed the spirit of the trip as well.

As Rene when sensing the same thing ,he would say that was an old fashioned "SNEAK ATTACK". A sneak attack is when you try to knock out the competition by planning what might be a last minute fishing trip with a few a close friends unbeknownst to the rest.A sneak attack might be a trip planned many months in advance or even years in advance but the main ingredient is complete and airtight SECRECY.
SNEAK ATTACKS are part of life and we welcome them because COMPETITION will make us work harder and people do stranger worse things ,,,,the final result is the WOW!!! that makes everybody say HOW'D THEY DO THAT????
SOMETIMES THEY WORK AND THEY KNOCK EVERYONE OUT BUT MOST TIMES THEY FALL SHORT.Plan well your Sneak Attacks.
If you recieve a phone call in the early morning at 5am that might mean a sneak attack that was succesful and the ochestrators of the sneak attack are calling to report a very big shark and you might say I did'nt even know you went fishing!! don't get mad it's just a SNEAK ATTACK!!!!!!!!

I must of logged around a thousand miles on that trip between yaking around the whole damn island and walkin down to the pass multiple times. Hahaha this one goes out to "Tim" thanks for all the hard work contributed bud. All in all, the trip sucked but still glad we tried the Ol "Sneak Attack" or we would be sittin our our couches wondering what might of bee. ill never forget all those dead fish that got trapped in those arctic waters. Next year we definately need to bail if the water temps are going to be that low.
WE'RE GOING BACK FOR REVENGE WITH OUR WAR PAINT ON!!!!
Dec. 12- Dec.15, 2011. With great weather forecasted, which will not be an all time record low of 31 DEGREES like last year, I have high expectations for this trip. School's out this week and the sharking classes start next week. LETS DO IT!!!!!!!!!
