Since I have been having big shark withdraws since my Hammerhead back in October I believe, I knew it was time for another trip. Loaded up on mackerel, squid and with the frozen salmon I have been saving headed for the bay. Weather was looking good for the day with light wind and cloud cover. Turned out to be freezing with a slight wind, but still manageable. First stop was to try to catch some bat rays for shark bait and to fill the chum bucket. But we only managed one Leopard Shark.
Move spots after to the sevengills hole and dropped baits. I was a little frustrated to see that the water was only 57 degrees. Last season I didn't get a sevengill until the water hit 62. Just the same you can't catch a fish without a bait in the water.
Dropped down some delicious looking baits.
Then dropped the "home-run bait" that could only mean a big fish.
The day had decent action averaging about a fish an hour. Ended with a grand total of 9 Leopard sharks to about 4.5' and one Brownsmoothhound Shark that was 2.5' long.
Good to catch some sharks, but unfortunately they weren't the right size or right kind. Looks like I'll have to wait a few months for the return trip.
On a side note, I dropped down a bait on an ice rod my buddy gave me to see what it could do. Immediately after hookup I release this was a bad idea. With a 2' rod and 20lb line you don't have much room for error. Fought the fish around the boat until it got caught on the anchor rope. Pulled up the anchor and was able to get it off. Finally get it boat side and it is another 4' leopard shark. It was fun on the little rod but now that it has been done it is going into retirement from shark fishing.

Great day on the water overall. Ended with the most Leopard sharks I have caught in an outing no major problems.

Nice Leopard Sharks.Have you fished Palos Verdes?When I went diving there I saw many Leopard Sharks along with a big seven gill shark.
Never heard of it. Where abouts is it located?
Palos Verdes is located in Southern California .It is a great place to go diving when the water is clear and very likely a great place for shark fishing(great white sharks visit often since there's plenty of seals for them).
Nice looking baits there ,the salmon looks like sushi grade,,Lol. The ice rod catch made the adventure that much sweeter I'm sure .Thnaks for the report.
