Last saturday Ryan (captaingaff) and I soaked baits pretty much all night..Had quite a few non committing hits from small sharks but still landed/tagged 2 blacktips to 63" and a bull at 79". Kind of a slow night but then again full moons are usually slow for us. Looks like we're finally getting a glimpse of cooler weather this weekend...the wind will blow and the days will get shorter but I'm still gonna hit it hard this winter in hopes of a cold water tiger.

Nice bull dude. Do you gig those stingrays out of your yak, or do you get out and stalk them? I've never had much luck getting them trying out of the kayak myself.

Ya I gig them while in the kayak..Usually the rays will spook when they first see the kayak but if you follow them they will eventually settle down and sit in place.

Nice report Doug thanks for sharing it with us.The weather is definetly changing but the shark fishing will continue to be good unless we get a real cold snap and then that slows the bight while the water temps stay cooler.Handling those rays on a kayak can be a bit tricky ,,,,that is to say getting the little flappers off the gig without getting barbed takes some manuvering:lol:

I see some crooked teeth on that gig. A big ray like that will kick ya but on a multi pronged gig. A single prong works best. My gig i use the most has a single prong about 20" long. I made it my self. Ya can stick the ray and push the shank into the sand and pretty much steak it to the bottom. Almost takes all the fun out of it. I prefer to put a gaff to it rather than get it by the nose holes. I like it cause when the wind is blowing the boat I can just let the gig go. saves breaking the pole. Nice bull. 3 sharks ant very slow.
