Dude, that sucks, BIGTIME. I lose quite a bit of line to boats around here, Desoto, Skyway, and the beach. I don't know how many times Ive thrown things screaming and yelling at a boat to slow down or watch the lines, and they just wave as they go by or don't even notice my 12/0 screaming drag as they're wrapping close to 200 bucks worth of 200lb Toughline in their prop. I just think about the damage line can do to a lower, ya know? I watch Registration numbers go by when I can see em, tired of idiots that just blatantly break the law and screw over law abiding people and don't care.

Man that really sucks dude, sorry to hear of your loss. I hope it can be recovered but.... I have lost a rod and reel once and a bunch of line once too. After we had 2 rigs hooked to a boat on our last trip we took to keeping a surf rod handy with just a big 6 or 8 oz.weight. This is on the beach but when we saw the close boats approaching someone would go to the end of our set and just hold that rod while watching them. At least one guy got our drift and turned his tug around. He made a wise choice.

 That is of my worst fears... watching or waking up to a missing rod and reel.

Because of the heavy line we use and the what ifs, I dont tie a knot at the bottom of my spools, I put a long loop and small piece of tape to secure it.

You live and you learn you just learned the hard way I guess. I am truly sorry bro, I cant even imagine how pissed I would be if it happen to me.

Never know maybe there is still some good people out there and one of them will snag it up and return it to ya.
