Bait #153 (E Polk's Big Tiger 11 ft 9 in -928 lbs estimated)
A good friend was looking for my big tiger and it is only on the tourniment thread so he could not find it. The Big Hammer Challange put us on the beach a bit more than usuall. It was bait#153 for 2010 and # 71 for the BHC. We were almost out of bait and had given up on catching anything worth entering in the tourny. We was on the last few hours of the last trip of the tourniment. I was awake about 4;30 or so and was thinking how it sucked so bad. Little did i know but a big momma was on the scent trail. About 5;00 or so I got a slow steady run. It droped and quickly came back. Slow and steady it went, not spooked or in a hurry. I set the hook and it was like hitting a brick wall. It started taking drag. slow and jerky it went 150 yds or so. the tug of war went on for over an hour. As the fish was getting closer the sun was comming up. Man what a beautifull site it was when the big thick dorsal poped up. We knew this was a tourniment winning fish so the pressure was on. As the fish got close to the beach its belly was dragging and would not come any closer so i had to wade out and follow behinde it to tie the tail roap. a scary few seconds but that is what i love the best. I tied the roap around its tail and Joey and I puled it up to the beach. We jumped up and down because we knew we had won and we had not even measured it yet. We rolled it up on the beach, got the hook out put a tag in and pulled a couple teeth. Thats right Team Tooth Farie. Stole it right out from under her pillow. We measured her and rolled her back in.She was 11'9" and 80" girth. an estimated weight of 928lbs. She swam off strong, with my tag in her. Monica videoed the whole thing, and Joey pushed me to fish harder. Cheers to my team and cheers to all my new friends at South Florida Shark Club.
