Awesome Last 3 Weeks
With all the rain we had here in Polk county earlier in the summer I have spent most weekends hog hunting and preparing my new property for deer season. Besdies working 5 days a week I go hog hunting or shark fishing and sometimes both.
It started off 3 weeks ago hog hunting before work on friday morning and I shot 2 of em back to back with my .270
First was 80-100 lbs
Second was about 150 lbs
That night I then went down to Palm Island on the west coast. I fished all night for 2 nights with only a 5' blacktip to show for it. Sorry I didn't have my camera until the second night so all I got a picture of was the sunset.
The following thursday night I went fishing with Chris after work at palm island. He already put up a report with the story but heres a pic of the 8'1" bull I got.
On this last thurday night after work Chris and I met up at the beach and found tons of seaweed. The water for hundreds of yards out was just a carpet of weed. Regardless we put out 4 lines and after 30 mins we decided to reel up, the weed was too bad. We quickly realized 3 of the 4 lines were tangled up and impossible to separate so we pulled in by hand hundreds of yards of line as well as the 40 lb rays with big rocks we had on the end. After 2 hours of reeling in and packing up we were ready to give up but we didn't. We then drove a long ways to a pier we knew about and had fished once in the past. We weren't sure what to think with the blood red water and no current but we figured what the heck. We kayaked out baits and hoped for the best. After a couple hours my lucky 12/0 started screaming and I set the hook. After a short fight we tailroped the shark and walked it down to the seawall. The lemon shark taped out at 6'7" and was my first pier caught shark.
I then rigged up some more ray on the hook and rather than kayaking out I threw the bait as far as I could to see what happens. About 45 mins later the 12/0 starts clicking slowly and I set the hook. It immedietly swam to the top of the water and started jumping. We were thinking goliath but weren't sure. After a quick fight we pulled up the fish that ended up being a fat 7' lemon. Again the 24/0 CB came out easy and there went shark #2 for the night. No pics of this one. That was it for the night and I was happy that we made a bad night turn into a good night with 2 sharks caught.
You need a bull dog then ya can kill the pig with ya knife!! Nice bull!
